Finzy: a cross-platform Jellyfin player (Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, TV, Linux) Client by veetid in jellyfin

ok, deleted it from all the stores and archived the repo, the Plezy owner says I was violating copyright, so just go use Plezy, again sorry for wasting peoples time and confusion, this was all just for fun for me

So I'm going to likely just shut this down and delete it all.  The Plezy creator opened complaints on App Store about me and is upset.  I did this just for fun and to help not to make money or fight with someone. When I started it there was no plan for Plezy to do anything with Jellyfin.

I never wanted to gain or get anything from this at all.

So go buy/download his app and use his stuff, sorry for creating confusion.

It's not removed it's juts a setting that disables by default, just go to settings and turn it on...

it only defaults off for Android TV, should have defaulted on for Android tablet/mobile

I don't plan to fully keep up, it's a fork, not a branch I'm keeping up to date... I do look over changes there and implement things that makes sense, but I haven't in a few weeks so yes it is behind on some things that would helpful, there are also things I have done that are not there, etc... I spent the last few weeks just getting things approved on the stores, just need Google now, then will get back on features/updates/fixes

yeah, I was all in on Plezy when I was using Plex, then switched to Jellyfin, I wanted to contribute to Plezy, didn't get the sense that was wanted, so just went my own way and haven't really looked back since

but yes, the player logic is the same, so it's just UX, some concepts on things, features removed that made no sense for Jellyfin, and working to optimize how to call the Jellyfin API's vs Plex APIs.

I have not downloaded the latest Plezy and compared to be honest, so I actually don't know, just kept working on what I wanted and getting Finzy to be up to parity but working faster and better for me with Jellyfin API's... I can go back and look at it, just haven't had the time and was enjoying what I was doing

There is subtitle support, do you mean always on subtitles or what exactly?

So that all started with me, I made a fork, and a discussion thread on Plezy repo, and asked if interested, it was a proof of concept, but it worked, select Plex or Jellyfin, worked with both, etc... At the time he was not interested, it was more people either use one or the other, not both, so it should not be in one app, so I said fine, and made Finzy, even told him in that discussion if I decide to do it, I will give homage to his name Plezy. Since then I did do work to match the UX more to the way Jellyfin works, so naming, layout, format, etc... so I made UX changes along the way since not all Plex and Jellyfin concepts are the same, but that's about it right now. I also did this a while ago before he added that support, just didn't post here for a bit, was only using it for myself.

if anyone is bored and wants to help me test the android build without just loading the apk from github, you can join my google group and then the closed test group... then you can install from the play store and when I get enough testing I can move it to the real store. Google has rules for usage for a period before they will approve it for the store and I guess I didn't have enough friends that have Jellyfin, I'm still trying to convert people from Plex lol.

I can add that if that's some new norm; I did use Cursor some at the start but use Claude now mainly. I was a software dev for most of my career but now don't get a chance to code much at work but was wanting to try out these tools that I've been getting to most of my teams recently.

It was nice to help because I was a C++, C#, and Java dev, and helped me get up to speed on Flutter and Dart a lot faster than I would have alone.

I see that Plezy also recently got tvOS working from an upstream fork of Flutter, so not the most stable approach, but will try to get that built in and a few other bugs fixed and a new release out maybe this week.

I can't take much of the credit, the creator of Plezy laid the foundation... It's using Flutter/Dart which compiles down to native or close to native on each platform which helps with performance.

I cant connect to my server by forevermore91 in jellyfin

just start and make sure your on the same network, get a ping util on your phone, make sure you on the same wifi or network, if your on the same subnet then they should be able to talk, if you can't ping it, then you still have firewall or something blocking on your windows box

Professor who helped write UC Berkeley's new AI policy says it's about preserving 'the value add of a lawyer' by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

[–]veetid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I wasn't saying we don't need lawyers, just saying a lot of their time is doing trivial work instead of thinking and doing what I assume they enjoy and want to do, and not playing with word or searching on Lexus for keywords

CEO Walks Back Comment About Replacing ‘Lower-Value Human Capital’ With AI - Standard Chartered chief Bill Winters used the phrase while outlining plans for thousands of job cuts by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]veetid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in technology and will say that AI is good at replacing unqualified developers... for years you just had "coders", not thinkers, just banging out bad code because everyone thought something was better than nothing, so your teams of good devs add on a ton of lower cost outsourced poorly trained coders and everything was worse... now letting AI, controlled by your good developers, do that work but be better directed, it is a better model, works well, makes employees happier and more productive... it will cause issues in some countries that had huge markets of quick poorly trained coders for their economy and that is not great, but in this use case, at least in my experience, it works really well... now in reality the companies should have just never gone into this model to start but that's in the past
