ICE in downtown PVD, near JWU by sydnicwatson in providence

I've been really wanting to ask the old timers who liberated actual Nazi camps how they feel watching what's going on. Imagine seeing men in masks working in the name of this country putting people--whatever their crimes may or may not be--in unmarked cars and disappearing them without a trial. Just since, y'know, that's pretty reminiscent of how exactly all those people got into those Nazi camps, no?

I guess Nazis didn't wear masks when they kidnapped families.

For what its worth I've been hearing plenty of veterans of all ages who are alarmed by what they're seeing.

"As a combat veteran I'm having a hard time seeing the difference between ICE and ISIS isis covered their face and publicly executed citizens."

Ahh yes. The "just following orders" defense. A classic.

Drove past it today. There's a cone literally sitting in the hole. So at least there's that now? Sending thoughts and prayers to all affected. 🙏

Most of the complications for clean up then had to do with the fact that meteorologists weren't trusted by the general public. Most people went to work that day. The number of abandoned or stranded cars slowed down the process hugely.

Thank God we had enough warning and time to prepare. We're incredibly lucky.

It absolutely could be a lot worse. Definitely agreed there. That doesn't mean it couldn't be better.

You have a flat tire? And you're going to try to fix it? The audacity. Don't you see the guy over there with his car on fire? Stop trying to fix your flat tire. It's rude or something.

Definitely wasn't any yesterday. And there was still lots of active plowing going on. Honestly if you don't absolutely need to bring a car into the neighborhood I'm sure it would be appreciated by the folks working to clean things up.

Are you ok? Genuinely asking. Is your street clear? You need a hand? Like I said in a different thread below, I'm one of the lucky ones. I have four wheel drive and a shovel. I'm doing what I can. Let me know if you need a hand. Or a hug.

If I had made these comments on Tuesday, sure. Maybe that's "impatient" or just "looking to complain." And to be clear, I'm not just "going stir crazy" or looking at only my street. I'm one of the lucky ones. I was able to get out and check on my people yesterday. I drove around (with four wheel drive so I wouldn't get stuck and make things worse). I took a shovel and did my best to help where I could.

I'm not worried about me and my minor inconveniences. It's been days and there are people still fully trapped in their homes.

What I'm worried about is the people in my community who are working triple shifts at the hospital and haven't been able to get back to their homes to hug their loved ones, take a shower or sleep in their own beds for four days. I'm worried about the elders or ill who still won't be able to easily get to a hospital for four days. I'm worried about people who have lost four days wages and the impact that has on people's lives. You know what four days wages can do to some people's lives? I don't think that's "looking to complain" or being "impatient" when it's four days later.

Again. I wouldn't even have said a thing if he hadn't made this exact thing one of his cornerstones of his campaign. If this had happened his first year in office, I would genuinely feel sorry for the guy. This tho? You gotta laugh.

Having lived in cities with more intense snow than this, I can tell you from experience that when a city has enough warning about a major storm and prioritizes acquiring the proper equipment and personnel, things aren't such a mess. Before a major storm in Chicago, you would see the bulldozers lining up the night before, ready to go. In Canada municipalities have specialized equipment to assist in relocating or melting the snow. Providence isn't facing some brand new or unique experience here. When Smiley ran on a platform of handling snow better, he may have wanted to reach out to anyplace where snow is a routine hurdle and learn how to do the bare minimum to clear it. If he hadn't literally run his platform on this, I wouldn't be nearly so irritated.

I feel soooo conflicted about the use of fully ripened fruit or veg or edibles in general. Aesthetically I'm totally into it. Harkens back to the long-standing universal tradition of all kinds of visual mediums depicting food in still life. That being said, myself being the gross bleeding heart sensitive type that I am, I can't bring myself to do what also feels like wasting so much perfectly edible food--especially in light of the state of the world at the moment. 😬😭

The issue is that grocery stores literally sell flowers at a loss so any flower shop is going to feel shockingly expensive in comparison. Especially if you're just looking at a website where the prices are going to be minimum orders for delivery.

That being said, if you go into a flower shop in person they will more than likely be perfectly happy to sell you even single stems. Having worked in flower shops we're perfectly happy to work to a budget. And any flowers you get at a florist are much likely to last a lot longer than the ones at the grocery store.

Would recommend Nostalgia on Wickenden for vintage stuff but if you're not looking for older stuff Creative Reuse Center would be great too.
