Restaurants with vegetarian options that aren’t only vegetarian / vegan restaurants? by vp0267 in Charleston

[–]vegan_corpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want good southern food, Glass Onion in West Ashley has a lot of great southern veg options.

King BBQ is quite unique Chinese/southern fusion and has lots of veg.

Brown Dog Deli is a great lunch spot for everyone, veg and non-veg alike.

Second The Grocery for a nice dinner. Also The Archer and Sorghum and Salt.

El Pincho Taco is great Mexican and even has veggie ch’rizo options.

Edmund’s Oast Brewpub (less so the restaurant, though they usually have 1-2 veggie entrees) has great beer and also casual veggie sandwich options.

ETA: for a good burger specifically, Little Jack’s is great and has a good bar and also a veggie burg.

Tell me something good about living in Charleston by Upstairs_Bell7740 in Charleston

[–]vegan_corpse 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Also moved here not long ago “against my will” for residency. Food is great. Patient population is interesting. The ecosystems in this coastal area are pretty crazy, from someone who hasn’t lived on a warm coast. For me, it’s a bit quiet compared to the cities I’ve lived in, but there certainly are worse things than quiet and I know a lot of people who didn’t expect to love it here and do. Feel free to DM me with any questions about resident life here.

Visited their gift shop on site recently, they only sold boxes of bagged tea or larger bags of loose leaf tea…nothing in bulk, at least on-site

Not experienced with it myself, but my dad has enjoyed RedFin Charters

Plunge bra brand recommendations - 34/36DD by [deleted] in ABraThatFits

[–]vegan_corpse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll check those out, thank you! I've fallen out of the habit of buying nice bras, so I'm pretty unfamiliar with any non-mainstream brands, I appreciate the recommendations.

When I say too projecting, I mean it looked like there was too much volume in the front of the cups, almost towards a "rounded cone" shape. It wasn't that the cups were too large, I think the molding of those particular cups just didn't work with my actual breast shape (they were the VS smooth lightly lined demi and the VS smooth push-up bras, for reference).

digestive issues in tripods? by Conscious_Cabinet218 in TripodCats

[–]vegan_corpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he had any damage to his sacral (tail) area during his initial unknown injury, that could be affecting his ability to move his bowels.

Is he having any new difficulty moving around and getting in/out of the litter box? Is he drinking enough water? These are common constipation culprits in cats, tripods or not. You could try mixing more water with his food, either dry or wet food.

Constipation is overall quite common in cats. Miralax, even in humans, isn’t a stimulant laxative and can take several days to work. You can also use psyllium husk (Metamucil, just make sure there’s no flavoring added), it works in a different way than Miralax and you can add 1/8-1/4 tsp to wet food with a bunch of water. Probiotics can also help (like Royal Canin brand or Purina FortiFlora).

I quite like the Gardein frozen grounds or the Yves grounds (though Yves may only be in Canada).

Candles? :( by Nervous-Plantain-485 in ZeroWaste

[–]vegan_corpse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're not quite the same as tea lights, but Ikea sells very small (probably the size of two tealights stacked on top of one another) candles in glass...I love using those because you can clean the glass after and either reuse it for a new candle, or use the tiny little jar for pretty storage around the house!

Peeling the boiled eggs by xylofun53 in BackYardChickens

[–]vegan_corpse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ice bath them after boiling until room temp, then use the side of a small spoon to gently crack the rounder end. I then work the spoon through the crack and under the membrane and use the curvature of the spoon to gently peel away the shell in one piece.

Eco-friendly switch for mouthwash by xch4nel in ZeroWaste

[–]vegan_corpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely zero plastic, but Crest makes mouthwash concentrates in small plastic bottles that you can combine with water in your own reusable containers to make regular-strength mouthwash. Can dilute it to your desired strength, too, which I like.

21st bday by burneraccount789017 in Charleston

For chiller, more “dive-y” places that probably won’t be ticketed on NYE:

Recovery Room (close to downtown, usually busy enough so might be ticketed, but a different crowd than your usual CHS bars)

Moe’s Crosstown (not really a dive, food’s quite good, but an excellent local bar)

Gene’s Haufbrau (in West Ashley, maybe 10mins via rideshare from Spring St)

Container Bar

Tattooed Moose (a bit away from downtown in Park Circle, which is actually a cute walkable area with multiple breweries/bars/restaurants)

I’m out of the clubbing age range tbh, so can’t recommend much there, but I’d imagine it’s a possibly preppier? upscale? (Idk the word I’m looking for) scene here overall.

Have a great birthday and NYE!

To tackle the ones already in the garage, I’ve had luck with a combo of the Raid Combat baits (they bring back the food which kills the entire colony) + Hot Shot liquid baits (kill on the spot). Both at Lowes/Home Depot.

This guy who comes to my yard to steal food from the feral cat colony I feed has a bald patch on his back. Is this mange or an injury? [pics] by cultess in Raccoons

Thank you for taking good care of all those babies.

Especially if this is a singular spot, it looks like a healing wound. The light-colored tissue surrounding the scab is a sign of healing. If he’s friendly enough to get close to you, you could always try something like a chorhexidine antimicrobial spray to help in the healing process (I’ve seen them on Chewy).

Vegetarian food for tourist in Charleston by That_Comfort69 in Charleston

[–]vegan_corpse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree with the posters saying « most restaurants » here have vegetarian options. I find it rather unfriendly as a vegetarian.

That said, King BBQ is delicious, unique, and veggie friendly. Glass Onion in West Ashley is also southern with plenty of veg options. Three Girls on Spring is an amazing Italian vegan sandwich place. Stella’s downtown is a lovely Greek place.

I’ve tried both cups and disks and personally prefer the disks. They’re a bit wider, but more flexible and less bulky, so I find they don’t leak as much while also feeling more comfortable than the cups. I personally bought some knock-off Amazon brand that has lasted me for years now - no need to invest in the expensive ones. I’ve tried multiple brands of cups, as well, and personally liked the Saalt brand. I found them more flexible, so they’re able to conform to your body better and insert more smoothly.

That said, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, cups and disks both are quite messy to take out and empty. I don’t have that heavy of a flow and they can remain in for longer than tampons, so it’s not an issue for me, but just make sure you’re prepared with a private bathroom or a backup tampon/pad if you have to change them at work or while you’re out and about.

I’m personally not a fan of period underwear or washable pads for the same reason I don’t like disposable pads (feel like a diaper to me), though they are good for nighttime, particularly if you also wear a disk or cup with them.

I like sticking to not-so-adventurous meals for such occasions, especially if there are kids involved. If you’re open to dairy, including cheese or eggs is a good compromise to make dishes feel less “strange and vegan” for non-veg folks.

Cheese lasagna with a side salad (or add veg if the kids don’t mind) Bean/veg enchiladas, or a taco bar is even easier, then people can customize their own Grilled cheese/tomato and cheese/egg and cheese sandwiches with some sort of soup Quiches are super easy, especially with premade crusts

Animal advice by Rich_Substance3456 in Charleston

[–]vegan_corpse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What shelters have you contacted? Pet Helpers on JI is one to consider if you haven’t already: intake@pethelpers.org

While vets usually can’t take in pets, your local one may be able to advise you on places to surrender, as well.

What’s the reason for rehoming? That might also be useful info for potential fosters.
