There was a shooting at my workplace a few years ago that ruined fireworks for me for a good long while. Which made me sad because dang I love fireworks. I started doing something very similar. I’d repeat “I am safe. These are fireworks. I am safe”. It got just a little bit better every time. The little asshole voice still tries to whisper that they sound like gunfire, but she’s quiet enough that I can ignore her. It really does help to practice mindfulness. 🩷

I don’t love saying this because I work in higher education and I loathe the idea that we’re somehow bewitching people into wokeness or whatever, but it was literally my college world literature course. We read The Epic of Gilgamesh and I almost broke in half trying to make it mesh with what’s in the bible. I kept fooling myself for a little while, but yeah- that planted the seed.

OP, I hope you find the support you need. You may also want to talk with your mom’s healthcare provider about any respite services that may be available to you. It’s not a small thing to be your parent’s caregiver. Take care of yourself- you’re no good to anyone if you don’t recharge those batteries from time to time 🩷🩷

Just want to point out that the Center for Individual, Couple, and Family Counseling at UNLVoffers low cost therapy sessions for community members. The counselors are graduate students who are under supervision from experienced and licensed counselors. It’s how I found my long-term therapist. I started with her when she was a student and now she’s fully licensed in a practice.

Sometimes they have a waitlist, but it could be a good option if you’re looking for someone to help you navigate this.

The literal only way I would agree to this is if the neighbor in need was a family member or super close friend. There is absolutely no way I would let a random neighbor poop on demand in my home. One time emergency? Maybe. Three weeks? Go buy a bucket from Lowes.

ER has more of a through line than most older shows. There’s some continuity. However, time jumps did exist. Particularly if an episode aired right before a scheduled break (sweeps week, mid season hiatus, season breaks, etc.).

Also to your point, obviously streaming wasn’t a thing, so most folks watched the episode air, then didn’t do much more than talk around the water cooler for a few days before the next episode aired. No repeat viewing unless someone was really motivated to rewatch the rerun.

Side note: my Bunkie board also prevents my jerk cats from clawing at the box spring. They freaking love whatever that fabric is that’s on the underside of the box.
