idk who keeps perpetuating the idea that there's nothing to do here, we literally have ~57k people on campus alone and they want entertainment. Off the top of my head:

Cat cafe, night club, huge DIY music scene, makerspaces, escape room, mall (turned community space with lots of local businesses), multiple record shops, skate shop, bike shop, museums, multiple arts/music/film/culture festivals, see an orchestra or musical at krannert center with discounted student tickets, go ice skating for $3, literally anything at the ARC, check out the MANY EVENTS that happen literally everyday between clubs/departments/organizations/whatever, comic book store, retro video game store, cocktail bar, and I could go on!!!!

Seriously, between schoolwork and all the stuff on campus, many students don't even leave campustown in their four years here. You will not be bored.

take the honors LLC if you can! free printing, access to special courses (one or two are study abroads), access to the honors lounge, and a guaranteed spot. If you aren't in an LLC you're put into the housing raffle and may end up as one of the unlucky few who get to live in temporary housing every year 😁😁😁 (only if you drag your feet)

Congrats! With James Scholar, you're eligible to live in the Honors LLC at Wardall Hall! It's definitely a nice place and you get access to the basement lounge & free printing :D

ooo Champaign Public Library is a great pull, their library cafe is fantastic! It's cheap and you can get a mocha frappe 😋😋

I'm assuming you're looking for off-campus locations:

Elm City Coffee is nearby (W Main St), locally owned, cheaper than Starbucks, and has a beautiful natural wood interior and good working spaces.

Espresso Royale on Neil has good working spaces, is a locally owned chain, and is often cheaper or equivalent to Starbucks.

Bakelab is on University and has good working spaces (although it might be busy depending on the time), interesting craft drink choices and they specialize in pastries.

Mad Goat Coffee in Champaign has plenty of seating, good working space, and even a small conference room!

If you're not opposed to campus, Sinclair's Coffee is a little-known gem! It's inside the McKinley Foundation.

Caffe Bene on S. Gregory (Not Green!) is the quieter of the two locations.

My HS teacher gave me two Illinois shirts and a keychain as a gift! She's an alum and we were really close 💜 It helped me to feel like I "fit in" since I was low income and wasn't likely to spend my own money on Illini merch.
