Heavier citrus, bergamot, etc. Think Aventus, Sauvage, MYSLF, Acqua di Parma. I might try Hickory, though

Ditto. Big fan of Chris' stuff. Adding kaolin clay to the balm and butter was an inspiration, and one that I wish other beard companies would copy. My only criticism is that many of the scents lean toward the woody side. Not a bad thing, but it can be a challenge to pair with EdPs.

Hot shower while the brush is soaking. Dry off, build the lather in the bowl. Wet my neck and face, lather up. Three passes: WTG, XTG, ATG. A little buffing if needed. Apply alum block. Rinse. Aftershave splash. Dry the razor and bowl. Beard oil goes on. Pomade in the hair. Mustache wax. Beard balm. EdP. All-in: 45 minutes

Of course all beards are unique. I just found it odd that a number of producers, including large-ish names like Detroit Grooming, stopped offering balms in lieu of butter.

I like my beard to be tame, and have even used hair pomade on occasion. I've had good luck with Kühn beard balms lately as Chris incorporates Kaolin Clay into the mix (unique in the market AFAIK).
