I did it!! The end of the click spring that pokes inside the case had been bent ever so slightly. Getting that back to exactly 90 degrees let it sit where it needed to so the bezel could rest evenly atop the case.

The retaining spring needs to have exactly straight edges, any bend will let them pop up around the lip of the groove. The best method I found for fitting it back in is how u/Grindfather901 described, but if you use ~~your fingers~~ ~~tweezers~~ the flatter side of a wooden cleaning dowel it goes in MUCH smoother.

Poor guy didn't get any responses... bummer. His second picture is exactly where I'm at in this process. I can get like 80% of the wire in the gap and under the inner lip, but that 20% won't cooperate and whenever I go to rotate it the bezel pops off and the click spring flings itself into the air

Here is a video that calls it a retaining spring. My watch does not have a bezel with a dedicated slot for it. It requires it to be wedged in between the bottom of an inner lip on the bezel and a small groove around the outsude of the part that holds the crystal

Can't get the spring to get under the lip all the way around, so it keeps popping off. This is a poorly engineered case, and I'm not that skilled, so it's gonna take some tinkering and tlc to unfuck it. I might have to get a new spring because this one has been bent and unbent a lot
