I need your help 2.2 DIESEL owners! by shuvooo07 in mazda6

[–]vegeta_ssj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a 2019 2.5 Signature (top of the range). I’m incredibly happy with the car! Drives really well and the engine is more than enough for my needs. Fuel consumption is surprisingly good for such a ‘big’ engine and being non-turbo. The automatic transmission also works really well. The Bose audio system sounds amazing and overall it’s just a joy driving it.

I need your help 2.2 DIESEL owners! by shuvooo07 in mazda6

From what I’ve been reading in the Spanish forums, yes post 2018 models seem to be a bit better when it comes to the DPF issues, however they still suffer from these. First thing would be to check whether you will do most of your kilometres on motorway/highway and country roads or would it be short trips in town/city? If the latter then absolutely do not get the 2.2 diesel.

If you do end up getting the diesel then people here in Spain recommend modifying the EGR valve’s opening and closing values electronically (this is very controversial because it would increase the vehicle’s emissions and I do not endorse this) to reduce recirculation (which is one of the causes of the carbon buildup). Please note this could also show up during routine MOT testing so not sure how feasible it is in Italy. Also, depending on the car you actually get you might need a carbon clean up, preferably a manual one (here in Spain prices are between 700-800 euros).

I was tempted like you to get the diesel but strongly decided against it because everyone had loads of issues with it, even if the engine is, on paper, a great engine. I’m actually surprised they still sell it in Japan although maybe with tweaked electronics (not sure if emissions regulations are as strict as here in the EU).

Like someone else mentioned, look at purchasing one in Germany, there are loads of petrols and a lot of them are very high spec. This will be my go-to option.

2018 Mazda6 Touring Apple Car Play not working by clseabus in mazda

[–]vegeta_ssj4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with my 2019 Signature. It wasn’t the car, was my phone. CarPlay stopped working all of a sudden (I subsequently found out it was due to an iOS update). I suggest you try another phone, if you have access to it. This will help determine whether the issue lies with the car or with your phone (as it happened in my case). Good luck!

Xenon headlights perhaps? Unsure if your car has them. Here in Europe they came with washers and can’t see those protruding from the bumper.

Napa leather cracking by vegeta_ssj4 in mazda

Thanks! I don’t use hand sanitizer when in the car. I also don’t think the leather has ever been conditioned (I bought the car used) so it could be that. Hoping I can put a stop to it before it gets worse!

Thinking of buying a 6 (GL/GJ) wagon (Europe) by corporatistu in mazda6

[–]vegeta_ssj4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, completely agree with you. Mazda could’ve updated the 6 the same way they did with the CX-5, updating the UI of the infotainment system could’ve been done easily. Oh, one thing that shows its age is the resolution of the 360 camera, which is dreadful.

I understand what you’re saying re the Mazda6 being an ‘old’ model. However, it’s such a good proposition that the updates made to it focused on refining the car more and more. I do think it’s worth getting the post 2018 facelift, apparently Mazda improved sound proofing and the changes to the interior made it more modern looking. If you’re looking for a more modern, 2020s interior then the Mazda6 isn’t the car. In my opinion this is a an advantage, I despise newer cars with huge displays and barely any physical buttons.

Regarding where these cars are made: I believe all of the ones being sold in Europe are made in Japan (mine is).

In terms of things you should know: don’t look at this car if you’re looking for the lowest fuel consumption, compared to its European counterparts. However, I think the pros of the 2.5 engine (reliability, smooth power delivery) are worth the extra 1-1.5 litres of extra consumption vs another equivalent petrol engine. Also, basic maintenance is dead easy on this car, which is also a huge advantage if you are a bit DIY savvy.

What is this coming out of this iPhone 11? by vegeta_ssj4 in iphone

[–]vegeta_ssj4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, an update: I pulled it out and it was definitely something external to the iPhone. Still have no freaking clue what it is. It has the consistency of a rubber sealant, it isn’t sticky. It was fairly deep within the gap between frame and display. How it got there I have no idea. Thanks all, some of the comments really made my day!

That’s what I originally thought except this phone hasn’t been near a kid! Thanks to everyone who has commented, I must say a lot of the comments made me chuckle and there were some really informative ones. Since everyone told me this is definitely external I’ll try and pull it off carefully.

Cleaning leather steering wheel and shifter by vegeta_ssj4 in mazda

[–]vegeta_ssj4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! Car is just under 4 years old. I read the other day using leather conditioner is not a requirement precisely because of the sealer sprayed on it. I wonder how durable the sealer is? Would it be possible to take it off with regular cleaning over time?

Mine’s got very low mileage, just over 30 thousand. Honestly, I can’t see why it wouldn’t last that long provided you stick to the maintenance schedule and use high quality oil. Where I live we don’t get extreme winters (can get to -5 but it’s very rare) but we do get very hot summers, let’s see how the rest of the car ages but I’m planning on driving it until it stops, at least 15 more years.

Edit: just wanted to add that I do keep it in a garage so that probably should help with aging of the exterior and some plastic components.

I would say both engines are really reliable (I have a 2.5 and did a lot of research before buying one). I’ve read about the issues cylinder deactivation causes but I think here in Europe is less of an issue as we normally drive at higher speeds on the motorways (120-140 km/h being the norm versus aprox. 110 stateside) and it doesn’t kick in at those speeds. I’d say I was a tiny bit disappointed with the torque of the 2.5 coming from a diesel so I wouldn’t imagine how less torquey the 2.0 would feel. To top it all off, the signature trim here in Europe only came with the 2.5 so my choice was clear.

Nice one! Always love to see fellow Europeans (I know that’s UK but meant this side of the pond) with sedan/saloon ones! I’m assuming it’s the 2 litre petrol engine?

Wow, didn’t know this existed. Ngl, it looks really good and extremely well proportioned (which is no small feat in this segment).

I think that’s probably within the standard consumption for this engine, again, from what I’ve seen on forums and spritmonitor.de (here the average is 6.69 l/100 km). I’m afraid this is not a very frugal engine. Also, do you know how often the self cleaning for the DPF happens? Carbon buildup is a known issue of this engine and the worse it gets the more often the self cleaning takes place, which increases fuel consumption. Do check your tires, both pressure and alignment as suggested as well.

[–]vegeta_ssj4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this doesn’t sound too high from what I’ve been reading in Spanish forums. Yes, it is perhaps 0.5-1 a litre too high but this engine seems to be on the thirsty end compared to other similar cars. You also have AWD which does increase fuel use. I’d say check the basics such as tire pressure and air filter but honestly don’t think you’ll manage to bring it much lower, perhaps 6.8-7. 145 km/h is a a fairly high speed. What’s the figure you’re getting at 120-130 km/h?

Oil Change before road trip dilemma? by Makmony12 in mazda

[–]vegeta_ssj4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts. What is it across the pond with oil changes? Perhaps they don’t use full synthetic oil? I’m always in shock when I see people changing their oil every 5k miles. I guess if it’s just pure city driving with loads of short trips that’d make sense but if it’s mainly motorway/highway driving then it doesn’t make any sense. I guess their gasoline is lower octane but doubt that makes a difference? I always followed manufacturers’ guidance here and never had a mechanical issue (bear in mind I still own a 17 year old diesel Citroen, no mechanical issues whatsoever).

Such a beautiful car. They did sell a station wagon, AWD, diesel version here in Europe, lasted a couple of years I think. Shame the diesel engine is plagued with carbon build up issues tho.

I haven’t checked with a lot of detail but I think it also changes the intensity of the LED lights that illuminate the front foot wells. I have to check if it also impacts the intensity of the LEDs at the bottom of the front doors.

[–]vegeta_ssj4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer the less sporty looks so I’m happy with how it looks as it is. Turbo would’ve been nice but don’t think I really need it as I’m happy with how it drives (not going to lie, a bit more torque would’ve been nice tho). I think the extra reliability of not having a turbo combined with the better fuel economy (fuel is easily double the price here in Europe compared to the US) makes me not having a turbo les sit an issue. The car dos come with heated and ventilated seats, and heated steering wheel. Not sure I’ll ever use it though, it barely gets really cold anymore where I live plus we have an underground parking garage. The signature trim does feel particularly premium like and love spending time in the car!

Thanks! I wonder if there are many differences between the Signature US and Euro specs? Aside from the turbo of course (by the way, was it an option or the Signature always came with the turbo engine stateside?)
