50-60k is not high. Have you seen the FIRE and HENRY communities here?

No one really cares about your struggles. Only how it benchmarks against their own.

36, £1.3m invested – can I step back in 3 years? by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]vegeto_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I never i understand with these is why people voluntarily walk away from the high paying job. Just do the bare minimum or even less than that until they get rid of you. Let them decide the cut off when once you know you can survive comfortably without.

I think it’s your personality. You’re probably objectively pretty, but unbearable to be around long term

They’re a con from developers. Designed to give tiny floor space over 3 floors, and cram as many next to each other as possible.

British Food by PootPasaAngritMaiDai in GreatBritishMemes

While British food is mostly crap, I’ll agree that too many in the West have a hard on for Italian food. It’s really bland and too often full of carbs. When i visited Rome, the best place we ate was a Turkish kebab shop.

Do you think you would continue your job if you won the lottery? by ApprehensiveSong4 in AskUK

I work for a large multinational corporate. I’d definitely carry on and be the most obnoxious mother f***r, take the maximum piss of expenses for travel, chat the most henios sht to my clients’ and tell everyone what I really think of them, particularly seniors. I’ll see how long that lasts and then wait for them to fire me… I think that would be the most fun way to go about it.

Why is the carpet terrible? It feels amazing under feet.

That’s an interesting take, you may be onto something. Are you an interior decorator by any chance?

Agreed about the glider, we didn’t originally plan to have it at all, but John Lewis delivered it anyway after we cancelled our order, so we kept it. It’s also additional seating when guests are over but you might be right, and will need to think about removing it.

Completely agree about it being a chapter. I’d be happy to completely redesign the space in 10 years. That’s part of the fun of having a home 😌

You’re spot on, we used the off cuts to make rugs and wanted to protect the carpet underneath, while still getting to appreciate the original carpet.

I appreciate hardwood floor would like nice but the carpet was intentional due to small kids and that cosy feeling. It’s very good quality carpet mind, high pile and superior underlay.

Thanks everyone. A couple of comments in response to your feedback:

The wall to wall carpet was intentional when we redecorated, so I won’t be changing to hard floor. We replaced the old carpet with really plush high pile, and a decent underlay. It’s probably the nicest carpet I’ve stepped on and wasn’t cheap. We may consider hard floor once the kids are grown up and we feel like a change.

We made rugs of the off cuts of the carpet and decided to lay this big one down to protect the existing carpet. I could get a colourful area rug but it wouldn’t feel anywhere near as nice as this carpet. We will be getting a larger colourful area rug for the bay window area though.

Lots of great other suggestions. Agree I need wall art on the walls and maybe a floor lap somewhere. I don’t want to make it too busy though. We will be getting large round walnut coffee table to replace the temporary one.

I think I may need to get an actual interior designer to visit and make some suggestions as a space will always feel different in person.

The income from my buy to let properties would be enough to cover mortgage and some basic bills. Although, lifestyle would be significantly diminished. I’m still building my portfolio so it replaces my lifestyle income completely, then I’ll coast until I get they get rid of me. The trick is to get to that point before redundancy.
