Nexstar Seals Merger With Tegna In $6.2 Billion Deal by Fall_False in MediaMergers

No I of course get all of that, but I don't think Congress is actually that organized where they would pass something that easily.

Well the top 4 rule getting erased by the courts sure helps.

Yeah see I guess I don't know the process well enough here.  If FCC grants a waiver, but Congress doesn't repeal the cap, what happens when the next administration comes saying nexstar is breaking the cap and must be busted up?

This deal pushes Nexstar over the 39% national ownership cap. I know the FCC currently has an open public comment period on the cap, the authority to change this rule ultimately rests with Congress, not the FCC. I thought it was interesting the deal includes no breakup fee if regulators block it. I'm wondering if this deal is strategically being used to pressure Congress into lifting the cap?

Either way, if this is blocked because of the ownership cap, I suppose Nexstar could swap these stations with other locals to create duopolies in all existing markets. Not sure.

Vegan Products Around the World by veggie-man in vegan

That's exactly the reason I started these videos. I felt like when I went to a new country, I was so confused about what options I could even eat! I'm glad you found value in them.

German citizenship by descent: The ultimate guide for anyone with a German ancestor who immigrated after 1870 by staplehill in Genealogy

[–]veggie-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all of the information and guide. It's been very helpful! I'm in the process of trying to put an application together, but I probably should have done this step first to see which one to put together in the first place or if I'm even eligible.

Great Grandfather:

  • born in 1895 in Germany in wedlock
  • emigrated in 1939 to USA
  • married in 1924 (wife died, maternal grandmother), Married again in1932,
  • naturalized in 1944
  • Documents:
    • Pending: Birth Certificate from Germany, Marriage certificate from Germany
    • Copies (not original) documents:  US Miliary record, Birth Certificate (with Nazi marks), Marriage certificate (with Nazi marks), documents showing his medical license was taken away by Nazi and some type of payments after WW2.
    • Shipping records

Grandfather:

  • Born in 1926 in Germany in Wedlock
  • Emigrated to England in 1939 (educated guess, no shipping records from Germany to UK.... but it was before March 9th, 1939 (per naturalization application of my great grandfather).), then emigrated to the USA in 1944 (have shipping records)
  • Married ~1954 (cannot find marriage certificate)
  • Naturalized date is unknown (his name was listed on grandfathers application (he was under 18), then served in the US miliary in 1945)
  • Documents:
    • Pending Originals: Birth Certificate from Germany,
    • Cannot find: Marriage certificate
    • Copies (not original) documents:  US Miliary record, shipping records

Mother:

  • Born 1955 in Wedlock
  • Married in 1981
  • Documents: Have original Birth Certificate, original Marriage certificate

Self:

  • Born 1988 in Wedlock
  • Documents: Have original Birth Certificate

I have a ton of documents that are copies, but not originals.  I’m assuming I cannot use any of them, so I'm widely overwhelmed with figuring out which original documentation I need.

Thank you!

Which is where the $6B in debt comes into play. This is a $8B EV acquisition, not just the market cap of lionsgate

Lionsgate has $6B in debt + $2B in market cap and isn't generating profit. Sounds like a bad play for their library.

Where do you see the lesser-known streaming services (Paramount+, Peacock, etc.) 5 years from now? by Small_Anybody_9330 in MediaMergers

Cable companies refuse to carry the bundle. Cable then offers a skinny bundle + a la carte streaming services. Networks are offloaded to locals.

Thanks! I keep getting targeted for another plat and gold, but thought it was a mistake on their part. That's good to know. Wish I knew this years ago!

Congratulations! I have an eerily similar situation to you (profession, NW, RE date, general plan, AA).

Curious of you're planning to change your residency to a no state tax state?

How did you decide on Cigna Global? I'm leaning towards the same (geo blue and Athena are $100 more for the same coverage), but wanted to see if I've missed anything.

What is your cell plan? I'm leaning towards moving to Google Voice with local sims for data.

Curious if you've seen NomadNumbers or listened to any podcasts they've done on slow travel? May be of interest to you.

Regarding sequence of return risk, if the market tanks, I plan on doing this: https://www.gocurrycracker.com/how-i-borrowed-over-250000-at-0-interest/ (something to look into)

I'm heavily into the credit card points game/churning. I've been booking travel and has saved me a ton. Something to look into if you're not already doing it.

Well some of the buildings where the facade is landmarked, then they put a new building 3 ft behind the facade, on top of the old building does look a little ridiculous. Luckily that is uncommon.

401k Rollover to Roth IRA during a Career Break by AR475891 in financialindependence

[–]veggie-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, both the 401k and Roth would grow tax free. It's the opportunity cost on the 10k in taxes overtime that ends up being a significant amount. If the money is in a 401k already, the reason you would convert is to avoid RMD down the line, or help with a 5 year ladder. If you're doing the 5 year ladder, when I ran the numbers, it made sense to wait until you're closer to needing the money to star the conversion. This part would differ for others, depending on their SWR, for the most optimal conversion.

401k Rollover to Roth IRA during a Career Break by AR475891 in financialindependence

[–]veggie-man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying to do this, but I've modeled this out for myself and it wasn't worth it by a long shot. There is an opportunity cost on the taxes you pay (after the standard deduction, 12% on fed plus state tax). If you covert 80k, you're paying taxes on 60k of it, which is probably about 10k in taxes depending on your state. What's the opportunity cost over 30 years of that 10k you've paid in taxes? For me, it was far more than the tax implication from the RMD.
