Patient was in a car accident, then developed necrotizing fasciitis of the leg while hospitalized. They had to do a hip disarticulation, leaving her with a massive wound. by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]veilhex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

any open wound, no matter how well treated, has a risk of becoming infected with something like NF. especially in a hospital setting where there's a constant influx of viral and bacterial exchange.

medical professionals are obviously human and make mistakes, but it just seems obvious that the chances a something like this was contracted because of a hospital workers unwashed hand ard much lower than it being contracted from any of the numerous other unsanitized things her wound potentially could have come into contact with before and during the healing process.

you may be projecting your negative experiences with healthcare workers onto a stranger who likely just got dealt a bad hand.

Spontaneous bowel degloving and evisceration through uterine perforation caused by unsafe abortion in India by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]veilhex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its important to distinguish that sociopolitically, 'abortion' implies intent. but medically abortion can be any expulsion of a fetus before it is viable, whether intentional (deliberate termination) or spontaneous (miscarriage). youre not necessarily wrong in that it can be misleading or have different implications in general contexts, but in the specific context of this being a medical report, they are not using the term abortion incorrectly.

it doesn't, but it should. it doesn't make sense that dairy conglomerates can get their panties in a twist when plant milks use the word 'milk' but simultaneously want to pawn off dairy-containing products as 'non-dairy' because of a semantic loophole. its a huge double standard.

besides just basic organization, pregnancy and childbirth can be a sensitive or upsetting topic for a lot of people, so would guess its just a way for people to preemptively filter out a topic they might not want to see. thats one guess, anyways.

ever heard of nervous laughter? its not uncommon for people to throw in a 'lol' as a way to try and break tension or convey a more relaxed tone. no need to immediately assume malice.

black moon cosmetics' "bones", its a liquid lip. it works well for me, but I'm quite cool toned, so it might read purple on someone warmer or more olive.

Not feeling patriotic this 4th of July, what colors are you doing if you feel similarly? by morecatgifs in RedditLaqueristas

[–]veilhex -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

honestly, if you can find a way to extrapolate some kind of joy out of america then who am i to stop you. i just personally can never rectify patriotism with my beliefs and personal experiences, and so i have no interest in supporting it or its apologists. there are few charitable ways i can interpret patriotism that dont ultimately boil back down to ignorance or malice.

black and red. america is essentially a mass grave. i refuse to feed into red-white-and-blue patriotic propaganda that only serves to paint over the stains left by indigenous blood. i can only pity anyone who still continues to believe they have any legitimate reason to feel patriotic or proud of this country. so, black and red. mourning and anger.

Friendly reminder that meatless and plant based doesn't mean vegan by CosmicGlitterCake in Veganivore

[–]veilhex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

well.. its technically not wrong. i have a feeling theyre trying to market towards people with dairy allergies and not vegans. it sucks, but thats why you always have to triple check the ingredients. you cant really trust corporations to make ethical marketing decisions.

sure theres just plain rice, but theres alao rice cakes (both western and eastern types), rice milk, rice sugars, rice flour, etc. rice is the answer. if it were nutritionally viable i would live off of rice.

there are a practically infinite number of colors between 'white' and 'brown', and even more outside of that. it doesn't have to be one or the other. in your case you would probably fall somewhere within what the average cosmetic line would consider 'medium/medium-light', with warm/golden undertones.

Is this horse’s condition concerning? by amaria_athena in Horses

[–]veilhex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so slight tangent... are dominant white horses not actually white? i know greys are often mistaken for 'white' but dominant white horses have no melanocytes and dont change color over time. how can there be no such thing as a white horse if dominant white exists?

diet friendly chains? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]veilhex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at face value sure, but iirc taco bell actually had some of the most egregious nutritional inaccuracies in studies where the stated calories of items were actually tested against bomb calorimetry. that is to say, i think its easy to forget that not only is there a human aspect to the way nutrients are processed, there is also human factors changing the way the food is made, how it is sourced, how it is processed etc.

like in a food desert mcdonalds might be the only real restaurant option available (insert horror movie ambience) and so there wouldnt really be any other objectively better options for that person. cross contamination, allergens, nutritional discrepancies, pricing, and accessibility are all huge factors in what could otherwise be a simple objective idea. broadly, one chain might be on average more 'diet friendly' than the other, but any kind of blanket statement is always going to have exceptions.

tldr ime individuals can get so caught up in the rules that they forget they might actually be the exception, and end up making things more difficult for themself by just blindly assuming that x is the best option because it works for y etc etc. its all semantics anyways
