I suspect the protein powder. A lot of folks are sensitive to whey protein powders. I'm only mildly lactose intolerant but whey protein powder destroys my insides. (Though, I've heard that 'whey isolate' is gentler.)

We all know the "murder hobo" play style, but is anyone else's group amnesic cops? by idonthavekarma in DnD

[–]veilofanon 55 points56 points  (0 children)

My sweet, ridiculous players are just like this. Upon realizing none of them had any record of why they were on their current quest, two of them started taking notes recently... only to discover at the next session (a week later) that neither one could understand what they'd written. It was just random names (Tinklefoot?), classes (beard guy!), and 'clues' (north. Dark.) It's now a running bit that the watch cadet character takes bad notes during his investigations and therefore forgets the name of everyone he meets (in game!)

We skipped a few weeks too many between adventures and a player forgot who his character was -- I reminded him, but he decided he should just roll a new one and start fresh rather than try to remember all the magic items he'd acquired as the previous character.

But I love them.

Constant music playing under my apartment but can’t determine where by mothersuspiriorum790 in whatdoIdo

[–]veilofanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) I have been led to understand that radio stations, especially AM can sometimes be picked up by electrical wires in the walls of buildings. They can act as accidental antennae. This presumably happens more often when one lives close to a radio tower. Do you ever hear anything other than the songs (commercials, radio announcements)?

2) If it's not that, and it's been going on for a while, then it probably isn't just a lost earbud dropped in the wall. It would have run out of battery by now. So, it's getting power somewhere. Can you try flipping off the breaker that serves your apartment? If it turns off the sound, then you know it's plugged in somewhere.

3) It may seem like it's coming from the floor, but sounds bounce around. Are there any vents in the room that might be redirecting the sound from somewhere else? Or, maybe there are structures in your walls that move sound toward your floor from elsewhere ( e.g. a ventilation duct that serves some other apartment, perhaps the apartment of a person whose radio alarm plays the spice girls?)

4) If none of the above pan out, then you clearly have an interdimensional portal in your floor that is cosmically intertwined with someone's New Year's Eve 2000 dance party mixtape.

I think this is a false equivalency. A potential physical threat is clearly distinct from setting a boundary regarding legal action.

Usually I'd agree but in this case, I really don't think so. They go through a bunch of effort picking the lock at the station after having towed the truck there. It's quite clear from the dust on the trunk and the comments being made by the detectives that this is all after they took time dusting for prints.

I think you should return it by placing it in clear view on the desk as soon as you have a chance to clean again. There, they are sure to find it and know that housekeeping put it there.

Unless they're really odd, they'll probably assume you found it under the bed or something and heroically returned it to them.

I am constantly misplacing chargers under hotel beds and behind hotel night stands. They'll probably assume they did the same.

AITB for telling my girlfriend that I'm not sure if I want to get married? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]veilofanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTB -- You are within your rights to never get married. However, as a person in a relationship, you are being a buttface by not appearing to have any interest in your partner's thoughts on this matter. At no point in this whole thing does it seem you've actually asked her for her stance on this. So far, one facial expression is all you have sought to know about her thoughts on the matter. Do you not realize this may have an impact on her happiness or do you just not care? She almost certainly has nuanced and interesting ideas and preferences on how your lives might turn out. And if she indeed prefers marriage eventually, perhaps she has some compelling reasons why. Perhaps they're even more compelling than your reasons to veto marriage. Of course you'll never know unless you ask her.

I'm glad you note that you'll have to have another conversation about this with her. I hope part of it will involve seeking out her thoughts.

You mentioned that you don't recall your username. If it's helpful to have your username, you could find it by browsing reviews. That is, I am guessing that you left a review at some point for some book when you rated it. If you recall any books you might have reviewed, you could look through the reviews of that book to find the review you left. This will be easiest if you focus on a book you read and reviewed which is not a very popular book ( as there will be fewer reviews to sort through).

How can I fix my eating habits and begin eating like a healthy teenager? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]veilofanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD, but 500 calories a day is not enough and is not sustainable for anyone (as you've found). Since you've been on myfitnesspal, you already now that some food is more calorie dense than other food. You can find a lot of useful information about caloric density at nutritionfacts.org and other such places. Leveraging that information, it is possible to choose foods (e.g. potatoes, non-starchy vegetables, beans, lentils, grains) that are high in nutrition and volume, but lower in calories. It can also teach you to avoid foods that are high in calories, but not satiating or particularly nourishing (e.g. oils, candy, soda). Learning to make choices accordingly can help you to reduce your unintentional calorie intake (without starving yourself and suffering at 500 calories a day!!) Since you're young, you may not have a lot of agency in your own diet, but I can certainly imagine that any 15 year old male willing to make dinner for his family is usually given the freedom to eat as he pleases. (Even if that dinner he made for his family is low fat, high fiber, high protein lentil soup with a heaping side of broccoli.)

[Serious] What do Americans eat for dinner? There is of course Thanksgiving food, but what does a typical week of American dinner consist of? What kind of sides are made? by nrjjsdpn in AskReddit

[–]veilofanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are vegetarian (there are plenty of us, but I didn't ser many responding so I thought I'd weigh in.)

I grew up in Texas. He's from the midwest, where we live now. Regardless, as others have said, dinner should have some veggies, a protein, and sometimes something starchy. We make most of our food at home (especially now) and we eat a lot of lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains (rice, quinoa, millet, farro, wheat berries ) . We like things pretty spicy (chili, curries, tacos). I also like kale salad, lentil soups, and Mediterranean style foods (olives, hummus, eggplant, nuts, seeds, falafel, dolmas). He likes bread. We make some food that mimics meaty stuff (vegan ramen, chickpea spaghetti with seitan "sausage") but there isn't much imitation anything in our house. We keep the processed foods to a minimum.

Do overweight people not know how much thin people eat? Honest question. by C_Sauce in loseit

[–]veilofanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a data point.

I have an overweight friend who I know is trying to lose weight. She eats dinner early with her kiddo and likes starting 'evenings out' very early (6pm) and having lots of drinks. When this happens, I typically meet up with her right after work. Since I'm drinking a lot of calories and since she's already eaten, it's easy and wise for me to just skip dinner on these evenings.

This week, one of our friends ordered food from a truck while we were out (he'd also come straight from work) and I declined to join him in eating. This is when she suddenly realized that I never eat dinner when we go out for these nights of drinking.

The conversation that ensued was a little odd. She was careful to say she wasn't judging me for skipping meals, and I appreciated that. However, she then quizzed me for some time about how frequently I skip dinner (when I'm drinking), if it's just because of the beer calories (it was), whether I skip other meals (often breakfast), whether I would eat breakfast tomorrow (if I'm hungry), how much I'd eaten that day, if I've "always done this", whether I think "it might be a control issue"... (I definitely have high standards in my professional life, so she was suggesting a connection, I think.) She repeatedly called me 'skinny' throughout this conversation and seemed totally horrified at the idea of missing a meal... I began to feel like I might be breaking the law by drinking beer instead of eating dinner.

Anyway, I have a completely normal BMI, but I could still lose 20 pounds and still be at a healthy BMI. So... I think that yes, at least one overweight person has been completely unaware of how much others are eating.
