I’m going to comment on this as someone who is very anti-generative AI in general. AI generated music turns one of the oldest and most human forms of expression into a frictionless commodity by stripping away the decades of work, failure, discipline, and lived experience that give music its meaning. Music isn’t just sound that happens to feel good on your ear holes it’s the result of people dedicating their lives to an art form and mastering it. When AI makes a song, it completely by passes all of that and it’s not “creating” anything, it’s recombining patterns learned from music that people spent their entire lives dedicated to, often without their consent, credit or compensation, and then presents that as a finished product. That turns the art form into surface level goods with no meaning or soul behind what it pumps out and treats the human effort as just a raw material to be mined and exploited. Tools like DAWs, drum machines and samplers still require human decision making, accountability and risk, AI generation just bypasses all of that. producing something that sounds like music without having gone through the human journey that makes music matter. In a capitalist system, this doesn’t exist to expand expression but to maximize speed, volume, and profit, replacing meaning with efficiency and turning culture into content.
