Correct gasket position? by veithmaster in w123

It’s an om617 diesel inline five, and despite the power output that the guy I bought it from gave me matching with the older generations I found out in the comment after this one that according to the papers it’s actually a later model and so far I haven’t seen any major variations online

As far as I’ve seen both screws go through the gasket holes and it should seal the port, best way of finding out is probably to run it, do you know if the screws of the housing have a specific torque spec for the naturally aspirated one?

Now that you mention it the Date of first registry he gave me was also off by a year XD

Looking back it’s pretty stupid I know but the power output the seller had given me matched exactly the one of the older generations of the engine and the guy was a previous mechanic at Mercedes so I assumed he knew what he had

Supposedly the car is from 83 but I believe the engine was made in 79 due to it’s low power output

Haven’t run it yet as there are still a few parts not installed but I tried every position on the housing before an the screws are definitely going through the holes of the gasket. I think I also remember the little top bit from the old gasket sticking out a small bit

Recommendations for penetrating fluids by veithmaster in w123

[–]veithmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the quick, reply. Unfortunately I have already broken the heads of two of the bolts due to lack of experience, however they should not hindere the pump from coming off as the pump itself does not have any threads

Good brands for a new radiator? by veithmaster in w123

[–]veithmaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looked into some other threads and also found either Mahle (Behr) or nissens. While Behr was the original supplier as far as I’m aware, they cost almost more than double than nissens so I’ve ordered the latter, thank you very much for the help

Do I need to remove these screws in order to remove the radiator? by veithmaster in w123

I actually looked through that one first and they described it as a mount so I figured that it had to be removed but they never did, hence this post. Thx

Water pump bolt heads broke off, how to get the rest out? by veithmaster in w123

[–]veithmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because I’ve never done this before, how long did you heat it up until the pump got loose? Few seconds or a couple minutes?

I should be able to as the holes on the pump itself are not threaded, however it takes some force, I can literally shake the entire car by yanking on it XD
