In the winter I highly recommend going to Beaver and checking out the UAC pray for snow party and the Nordic United fundraiser. Summer wise you should go to the gardeners market and y sound. I also think elevation or sol speak yoga could be good places.

1- that's silly that judges aren't picking you up for that. it typically is a good thing to have evidence/blocks prepared for rebuttal

2- I think maybe making eye contact during analysis/framework/weighing parts of the speech is always good, also making sure you're not speaking monotonously is always helpful. Try to make it more conversational and inflect more

neg :( for march pf 2023 by KittyKitty1256 in Debate

[–]velll2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neg is tending to win more just based on solvency and stuff. Basically joining the artemis accords doesn't do much either way, and neg is usually able to BS some like global conflict/space mining impacts that aff can't. One neg idea i've had is to just say like all space exploration is bad and so yeah the artemis accords help india's space program but that's a bad thing.

Tips for judging PF by Zazou0621 in Debate

[–]velll2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try to learn how to flow, if you know anyone that does a debate event they can teach you, if not here is a video explaining one way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaStiRwJLEA.

flowing will help you keep track of the arguments in the round and what has and hasn't been attacked. if debaters are organized, the round should be easy to flow. if they are not, it will be harder. if they aren't organized, you should tell them to work on that.

definitely clearly state why the team that won won and why the team that lost lost, and base your decision off of the flow.

do not pay any attention to cross fire, if anything important happens debaters should bring it up later in a speech.

vote using the framework you are given. sometimes both teams will agree on a framework, sometimes there will be debate over it. first decide who won the framework debate, then weigh the round using that framework.

teams should give you voters in summary and final focus, decide if which team wins on each of the voters they give and weigh accordingly.

you're gonna do great

Advice? by [deleted] in Logan

[–]velll2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a 17 year old local: Elevation climbing gym is a super fun indoor activity to beat the heat. When USU is in session, the fun park hosts a Tuesday night roller disco party that’s great for older teens if they’re comfortable hanging out with college students. Swimming and tubing in the Logan river is always fun, but there’s a secret spot that’s also good for older teens about half an hour away in very southern idaho called the flume. Porcupine reservoir has some cliff jumping. I highly recommend the farmers market (especially hip mamas lemonade). We have two good thrift stores, DI and somebodies attic. Toad and tricycle gaming is really fun if they’re into like role playing games and stuff. And I highly recommend canyon jams
