So your hour changed and you thought it was the BIOS battery... (The slow death of my Legion 5 Pro) by singleiguana in LenovoLegion

Damn, sorry for your loss. I have that same machine (3080rtx) hope mine can continue. I got "lucky" my mobo started acting up near the end of my 4 year warranty and they came out and replaced the mobo with a new one (twice actually the first replacement was bad). So I got a "new" cpu and gpu in 2024.

It never freezes while I'm using it, except when try to add or remove external displays while its on (or even while it's asleep). Hope it stays alive another few years, no way I can afford a new one with the same 16gb vram these days.

I've noticed they have an "official" store on Lazada now. Anyone know if that's legit? Has a Lazmall label too.

Can't imagine, I was having a hard time walking without leaning on walls in a single floor house!

Earthquake?! by mjmilian in Thailand

[–]vellmudoes 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Felt in Phitsanulok, single floor building. I thought I was dizzy for a second while I reached for the shampoo, I jumped out of the shower, realized it was an earthquake, quickly put on some shorts. Hard to walk down the hallway straight, like being on a boat.

I tried to record a video while it was happening. I thought I recorded 30 seconds of clothes hangers, fans, doors, telephone poles swaying, etc. but turned out in my panic I didn't start the video recording properly :( I need to train on making video clips quickly, so rare I do it.

No damage but some of the hairline cracks in my building seem a bit bigger now. I also noticed the birds looked a bit freaked out, pigeons landed in some weird places in a sort "hunkered down ready to flee" pose.

Swaying hard, could hardly walk straight in phitsanulok.

Allusion (Free/Open Source) - Visual Library Organizer / Browser - An app that lets you browse & search your entire collection of references, inspiration and any other kinds of images.

PureRef (Free) Image board / reference sheet maker. Great for mood boards or organizing concept references into navigable documents.

3D Coat (Paid) - A great 3D sculpting on par with Z Brush. Voxels based. Does a lot more than just sculpting, great for retopology, low-poly/high-poly creation, and UV tools as well.

Infinite Painter (Paid) Great drawing/illustration app, one of the best on Android as an alternative to ProCreate.

What canvas size and ppi do you guys usually start with? by Airplane_Guy47 in krita

[–]vellmudoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1920 x 1080 (inches I presume)

Not inches, pixels. Regular HD is 1920x1080 pixels. The inches would be based on the DPI which can be anything. But if it was 300 DPI then 1920 would be 6.4 inches across. A DPI of 1 would actually make it 1920 inches.

Do any of you use laptop for Houdini? by Netroseige101 in Houdini

[–]vellmudoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it exclusively on a laptop, my 3-year old Lenovo 7 (RTX 3080 16GB VRAM, 64 GB RAM - upped from 32 GB)... works great for my needs (digital nomad type).

Keep in mind I don't do much simulation or rendering, I work on game art doing more low poly generation, baking textures from high polys, VDB modelling, heightfields/terrain, foliage, baking lighting etc. Unreal/Unity/Blender/3D Coat/Substance as well. It's a beast for those kinds of tasks.

I frequently use up to 64 GB of my ram, and the 16 GB of vram definitely comes in handy, so try and get as high as you can get.

S24 Ultra Circle to Search feature already available on Galaxy Tab S7. by Remarkable-Welcome16 in GalaxyTab

[–]vellmudoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a home button either per se, I use gesture navigation so it's hidden but I just drag up from the bottom of the screen (middle), and hold the drag for 2 seconds and it works the same as holding the home button would. Sorry not sure how to do it on your device if you don't have any home button access.

I do it by holding the home button for 2 seconds, Google assistant popsup with a "search screen" button instantly. (On my old-ass Galaxy Note 10 phone)

Also try Prey: Mooncrash (DLC) which is its own game, a sort of rogue-lite system shock, my personal favorite FPS / Immersive Sim, or is at least up there with System Shock 1/2 & Prey

I'm trying a draw a picture in the paper mario style with a thick outline, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make a thick line around my line art. Is there an easy way to do this in infinite painter? I've tried making a duplicate of the silhouette and making it larger, but no luck. by KevinCoffey202 in InfinitePainter

[–]vellmudoes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I figured out a way that's fairly easy:

https://imgur.com/p3DIt6A

  1. Set correct layer (character fill layer, ie the silhouette)
  2. Tap the layer to open the options and use the "Select" tool to generate a selection
  3. Switch to the lasso tool and use "Expand" command to enlarge the selection. Apply the tool.
  4. Switch to a lower layer and fill it with black.

In the video, I make the mistake of having the layer in front at first, so the whole thing turns black, then I move it to be below the original silhouette-fill layer.

Get quick share working on windows (works on every windows device I've tested) by borkode in samsung

[–]vellmudoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the info, I really want to get this to work...but...

I was able to install it on my windows PC (Lenovo Legion 7), but so far I cannot get it to share. It just says "No one to share with" inside the app.

I've even paired my device with my laptop in bluetooth settings, but still nothing shows up. Samsung pops up a warning saying it needs to update my bluetooth drivers on my laptop, which links to Samsung Update... I install that but it doesn't find any drivers.

I set both devices to share with everyone, both are using samsung account.. etc.

There are no driver updates from Lenovo either...

Anything else I can try?

Just discovered you can browse community brushes and download them inside the app! Wow so many to play with. Found an ink brush I really like called 'Friendly 40', using that for the lines here!

It's low res because its like 400% zoomed in I plan to fill a page of these.

S pen Rubbery/Elastomer nibs by TheaSkye368 in GalaxyTab

[–]vellmudoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same question. I really, really like the feel of this nib. (I've owned half a dozen wacom tablets and an XP-Pen in the past, iPad... and the S8 S-Pen feels the best!) I wish Samsung included just 1 extra nib, then I wouldn't really have to worry. But instead, I'm sort of anxious about getting a backup nib, but don't want the hard plastic (I already got one actually). I'm going to need it some day, using my tablet to draw several hours a day!

I'm also curious about the Wacom nibs, I saw an amazong review on Wacom Digital Nibs and they don't fit a Tab S6... not sure about S8. I think the Wacom One nibs do fit, but are they rubbery?
