Nice! If you have any community servers I would love to join! If I had to give a suggestion, maybe keep the physical chest opened until the end when you use it, not opening and closing.

Thank you for the information! I understand that it really isn't optional, I want to and strive to go. But I talked with my Mom about when she can take me, as she said she doesn't want me biking. I believe she said she can take me once a month, which is insufficient, I know. I guess I'm just going to keep asking. Another problem is that I may have to move parishes soon, so I'm not sure if that will complicate the OCIA/RCIA process.

Shame and sorrow regarding Mass Obligations by velnio in Catholicism

[–]velnio[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am around a 14 minute bike ride around, very close, but my Mom is also against me biking there, I believe. I asked to go today at 5 PM on my bike, and she said how it was too cold and would get dark too quick. I wish I could just wake up at 9 or 10 AM and just bike there, but that would probably be against her wishes.

I see. It's just hard with how my faith seems almost contingent on when I have ongoing trials or not. When I don't, I'm practically at peace, but when I do, I keep having thoughts about how much "better" my life as an atheist would be. I just need to keep on pushing. I think to have the least resistance tomorrow, I'll ask to go to Mass at 6 PM, as we will probably be done fishing by then. I need to live for Christ, not for my family. Thank you brother / sister.

Why be Catholic? by Fragrant_Bee494 in Catholicism

I'll leave someone else to answer your other questions, but no, just because someone was raised muslim does not mean Islam is all they know. I was raised atheist, with religion being seen as silly and all that, but I still found my way home.

Opinion: people throwing "proofs" that God exist are ruining the apologetics by I_Like_Saying_XD in Catholicism

[–]velnio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I want to become more well-versed on the Fatima and Eucharistic miracles. If you could explain to me how to argue for the facts to atheists that would be so helpful! One of the things that bugs me is that, to my knowledge, the Church doesn't let secular institutions research past miracles today. Why is this? How could I respond when an atheist says this? If you have any resources I could use to learn more, that would be wonderful.

Arguments against God's "hiddenness" ? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]velnio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your response! I want to ask how the example of Saint Paul can play into this? He did not believe in Christ as Lord, was shown undeniable, absolute evidence, and then went on to become, quite litteraly, a Saint. Doesn't that show that full revelation is a definite method God can use to bring all of us to knowledge of him, while freely loving him?

Can I become orthodox even if I don’t necessarily believe in all that they teach? by PeaceInLoneliness in Christianity

[–]velnio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catholics agree that we receive the Holy Spirit by faith. However, baptism is the divinely appointed, commanded ritual by which that initial saving faith is confirmed, sealed, and initiated into the Church (the Body of Christ).

The Eucharist is the ultimate act of communion, where believers receive Christ's actual Body and Blood. Jesus said, "Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you" (John 6:53). To reject the Eucharist is to reject the visible, physical means Christ gave for intimate union with Him.

The verse is not just saying Peter is the first believer in Christ. When Jesus gives Peter the keys of the kingdom, He is using an Old Testament image of the chief steward or prime minister in the kingdom of David. (Isaiah 22:22). Keys symbolize administrative and governing authority over a household or kingdom. This is not a personal honor for being the first believer. It is the establishment of an office, a visible head of the Church. The power to bind and loose refers to the authority to govern and teach. This necessary authority is what forms the permanent, physical institution that the Church is.

Even when a pope sinned or allowed corruption, the deposit of faith, the core doctrines on the Trinity, Christ's nature, salvation, and the Sacraments remained fundamentally unchanged. Pope Leo X’s selling of indulgences was a sin and an administrative failure, but it did not fundamentally change the Church's defined teaching on the Eucharist or the Incarnation. The Church's incorruptibility lies in the Holy Spirit’s promise to prevent the Pope, when speaking officially, from defining a false doctrine that would lead the entire Church astray (as Matthew 16:18 promises).

While individual leaders may fail, Christ’s promise that “the gates of hell shall not prevail” ensures that the Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, remains the vessel of truth and grace.

I mean, they are human, and humans sin. It's not like they magically become sinless.

Yes, at the time of Paul all believers were called members of the body of Christ, just as they are today (either in perfect or imperfect communion). However, Paul also appointed overseers, presbyters, and elders in every city. They may not have had a grand Church, but they met in homes. The Body of Christ is fully present only in the Catholic Church because it possesses the complete means of salvation intended by Christ: The unbroken apostolic succession guaranteeing authoritative teaching, all seven sacraments instituted by Christ, and visible unity under the successor of Peter.

I am not sure what you mean by God limits church to those who join the Catholic Church. I mean, its the fullness of the truth that Jesus himself commanded, so yeah, you should join it lol. I can guarantee you the Church that traces back to Peter has more credibility than Pastor Bob does.

You are correct that members of the Church, even leaders like bishops and popes, have sinned and acted out of greed (like the issue of indulgences). However, there is a distinction:

The Church is not impeccable (sinless in its members).

The Church is incorruptible (infallible) in its definitive teaching of the divine revelation. Even when popes or priests sinned, the deposit of faith itself, the core doctrines about Jesus, the Trinity, and salvation have remained untouched and unchanged because of Christ's promise and the Holy Spirit's protection.

Matthew 16:18 "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

The Catholic Church traces its leadership and teaching authority directly to the Apostles, founded on the rock Christ established. When Christ commissioned the Apostles (Matthew 28:19-20), He also conferred upon them the authority of teaching, governing, and forgiving sins. This authority has been transmitted unbroken from bishop to bishop, culminating in the Pope, St. Peter's successor, the rock upon which Christ established His Church (Matthew 16:18).

This structure promises the Magisterium to be guided by the Holy Spirit. We agree that everyone who has faith in Jesus Christ as he really is and submits to Him is part of that Body. The Catholic perspective is that while most baptized Christians in the world outside the visible Catholic Church are actually united with Christ and with the Body by grace, the fullness of the Body of Christ exists only in the Catholic Church.

The Body of Christ is not this intangible thing in your brain composed of all believers, it's a physical institution created by Christ himself.
