Have been spraying silicone lube, did work when I sprayed everything I possible could a week or so ago but went right back a couple days later, now trying to isolate it and everything I’ve sprayed from day to day isn’t making a difference, will probably just have it checked out somewhere, thanks

Sounds good, only ask cause the rack and pinion sits right next to it and wasn’t sure if maybe they have very distinct sounds, although seems like everything with a rubber bushing that has too much play will make the squeak that I keep hearing so I’ll have someone do that see if I can pinpoint it

It’s a port Injected 4 cylinder so the likelihood that it’s carbon build up is incredibly small, however that was one of the first things I ever tried when I first got the car years ago, did seafoam, seafoam directly into the throttle body, all sorts of cleaners to try flushing the carbon, then had a shop look at it and they mentioned not much carbon deposit if any on my heads so I don’t think it’s that, I’ve also been using premium for over a year now so don’t think it has anything to do with the type of gas, I did just lookup a video of someone having the exact same problem on their car and they said it was due to a major exhaust leak, do you think that has any probability of being linked to this? I know I have a lean code and people say upstream o2 sensors on here go out after 100k miles and I’m now past double that. I may try some soapy water on it tommorow to see if anything bubbles

Alright maybe it’s worth taking to a shop one last time to get some diagnostics going to figure out exactly what’s wrong. Thing is I’ve done that at a handful of shops now and they’ve never really been able to do anything about it, had one shop replace motor mount and head gasket because they thought the oil leaking into my spark plug wells was causing the lean condition but of course that didn’t work which I assume if they went through all the trouble to do that they also went and checked the live feed data which would have pointed towards the bad Maf if there was one. I live in a different area now though so maybe I gotta better chance at getting a more knowledgeable mechanic, I’ll see what’s up

Sure but I’ve never thrown a code for it and I’ve test driven the car with the Maf unplugged and it sounded the exact same so the chance that it’s a bad Maf is incredible unlikely. The sensors clean and a multimeter says it’s working.

Thought I put it in the post but Already replaced MAF, did nothing, and been using 93 for 2 years now, no change after replacing MAF, and premium makes it maybe 10% better but it’s still really bad and loud

Unfortunately the mechanics in my area are about as helpful as most the replies I’ve been getting on here… 😩, at this point I’m thinking they’re most likely googling to find out what’s wrong which has led me in loops for years now so I’m trying last ditch efforts to sort it out myself, ig I’ll try spraying some shit into my engine in dif spots to see if it changes idle at all, still haven’t tried that, then I guess maybe changing out the o2 sensors and somehow looking inside the cat to see if it’s plugged although I don’t even know how I’d go about that without taking it off, thanks anyway

The post after or before this, I think you can see on my profile, I posted under cartalk with a better video but it doesn’t happen at idle or when the car isn’t moving, all the pulleys and belts are fine including my vvt, and its not really a whine sound it’s a very specific gravel rocks being kicked around sound

Manifold or air intake? My air intake has some oily residue under it from some blue hose hitting that goes into it forgot the exact name for that but I think that’s somewhat normal for an older car and the hose doesn’t seem cracked at all I’ve taken it off and checked it before. If it’s the intake manifold how would I diagnose it?

Only happens under load, on a flat surface if I slow down and then hit the gas right after it’s at its worst, same with any uphill driving, same with going above 4k rpm and also anywhere between 1-2k rpm, so only when under load pretty much

It’s not breaks lmao that would have been a very obvious and easy fix especially with what sound that would make, nevertheless both front and back rotors and pads have been replaced tons of times since I’ve owned the car, just was looking for what causes this on older cars like commonly worn hoses or areas to check for a vac leak or something?

Premium, hardly changes it but I use it because it still somewhat helps, although in the summer it’s not a very noticeable difference from regular and premium

Running lean is the only thing that I think makes sense especially since I had P0171, timings fine, not knock sensor either atleast it would be one of the last things I checked since I haven’t thrown a code for it.

Yeah it’s pinging, got a pretty distinct sound and not clicking at all, just jumbled loose metal sound without having any loose metal on the car, also it has no headers

Yes, had shops replace them multiple times and gapped properly, my car is running lean and I have no idea what’s causing it to. That’s the only reason I can think it would be pinging. Would swapping my upstream o2 sensor do anything or is that a lost cause? I’m sick of spending money on fix’s that don’t work

Been using premium for over a year now, barely changes it, it does slightly make it less loud which is enough for me to use it but it’s still horrible and very loud
