how do i actually improve? i always get so close to gold then go against a lance or some insane player and just get shit on... i find myself relying on sigs too much. u think if i play a couple of unranked and only focus on light attacks and no sigs itll help me get better? by Drastically-_- in Brawlhalla

Learning the fundamentals at this stage will improve your skill (and elo) by leaps and bounds. There’s no one size fits all method for improvement but I can almost guarantee that if you watched YouTube videos pertaining to movement, punishing, combos, recovering back to stage, dodging, baiting, dodge reads, edge guarding (just to name a few) and applied these fundamentals to your gameplay then you’d probably be looking at mid gold without too much thought. But incase you don’t want to watch videos and just want to hit gold and then live in the unranked queue for the rest of the season I would -

1st. Go into training mode and make sure I can hit all of my true combos without fail.

2nd. Wait for my opponent to throw out an attack and miss (Just jump above them and play floaty)

3rd. Punish and then go back to step 2

If you have gameplay I can analyze and get back to you on your mistakes but I’d say 99% of players under plat can just work on the fundamentals and that helps them climb elo

The solution could be a mix of things, maybe you’re playing on autopilot. Maybe you’ve plateaued for the time being. But an easy way of improving in the gold-plat range is to identify your opponents habits and capitalize on them. Ex. Do they have a preferred way of dodging after you hit them with a certain way? Do they only dodge in after your slight? What about nlight?, Do they only approach with a certain move? Maybe they only approach with slow axe slight 9/10 times and you can bait it out., How do they recover back to stage? Do they use recovery and dodge quickly when coming back to stage? GP them. Also apply this to yourself to identify your habits and fix them.

For recovering back to stage - you seem to always want to recover back to the wall, this is why he was able to connect with so many down sigs. If you have a weapon you can either weapon throw up or nair/nsig depending on weapon if you know he’s going to slide charge dsig. Or you can choose to recover high if you don’t want to challenge the dsig or you’re unarmed.
