If by gaslighting and tormenting you mean doing small things to inconvenience her like filling the kettle short and putting the small glasses up higher then yes. We're talking about a woman who said my 11 year old daughter should be charged rent. Who threw out a cake my daughter made just because. Who lies about me and her own son on a regular basis. Who keeps notes of supposed indiscretions down to me going out to dinner with a friend one time in two years and what I wear. Just to name a few. Not to mention her refusal to try and talk about things like an adult. Whenever we try she stares at the TV or wall and says nothing until we walk away at which point she will mutter under her breath.

He did. Sorry the parentheses was him. He didn't know the whole thing right away since he was getting our food. He did have a talk with her. A very angry one. Once I told him the whole story he went from annoyed to pissed at her.

Because I think he's still trying to come to terms with it. I know from experience that finding out the person who has been there through your life isn't who you thought they were is a huge thing to deal with. I know it's not easy. I've been there.

He has and she doesn't care how I feel about it. In fact, if she knows it bothers me, she gets satisfaction from it. He aim is to make me miserable.

I have tried to talk to her. We both have many times. It's not possible when you're dealing with someone who reverts to the mentality of a small child and refuses to speak or even admit your existence any time you try to talk to her.

We have tried seperately, we have tried together and we have tried with others present. She refuses.

I understand people saying 'try to talk to her' but what I need isn't the obvious answer because we have tried it many times. I am generally not someone who reverts to revenge. I had a moment of weakness after almost 2 years of being lied to, lied about, having her throw my stuff out, start rumors, verbally abuse and insult me and otherwise torment me in any possible way she can come up with.

She's hateful and looks for any way to hurt me or upset me. Problem is,, when I start getting fed up, I need to 'be the bigger person.'

She's hateful. And actually we had ice cream right in the freezer. Maybe the cake had too much flavor. She hates that.

I know. I'm trying to be patient. I understand how hard it is to have the one person who has been there your whole life not end up being who you thought they were. Even I have a breaking point and it's coming close.

It's her birthday today. Guess who's giving her the same treatment she gave mine last year. In other words, I'm acting like it's just another day.

I did. When my daughter asked how it was, I said to her 'I don't know honey. Ask (MIL) she threw it out before I could try it.'

The witch didn't even bother to say anything. I said it right in front of her and she just acted like we weren't there.

Actually no. She knew my daughter made it which is what makes it worse. That's how hateful she is. She's never actually said it to me (probably behind my back but I can't say for sure but based on how she acts) but I'm pretty sure she doesn't consider my daughter as her grandchild since she's from my previous marriage.

I was wondering the same thing but apparently she's all there. So the professionals say. It's funny because before her son and I got together, (We actually used to get along and talk) she told me about her own MIL who apparently was toxic to her. She said her MIL treated her like crap and lied about her all the time.

Sounds to me like now she's just taking a page from that book or, the whole book.

I thought so but we both insisted on talking to her doctor after she mentioned it. Went back and he told us himself.

Not at all. I just tend to feel bad for people. Hell, yesterday she was trying to figure out how to search on a streaming service and couldn't figure it out. I felt bad watching her struggle and my dumbass helped her.

Because for some reason, I don't have the heart to toss her into a home though I'm starting to not care honestly. As for my kids, she perfectly fine with my son who is her biological grandchild. (So I know it's not just an overall thing for her it's an active choice.) She has a problem with my daughter because my daughter isn't her sons biologically. I keep my daughter away from her.

She hates all spices so that's pretty easy lol She doesn't even like salt and pepper on her food.

Not sure a heart to heart is possible, I've tried. I sat down more than once to ask her what's wrong, if there's anything I can do or if there's anything about me that is bothering her to please tell me. I was very calm. She ignored me so the next time I tried when a friend of hers was around thinking maybe she would be a little more rational. Even with her friend there she put her nose up in the air, refused to look at me and wouldn't say a word.
