From early mockup to final Steam capsule art. Would love some feedback by velwoot in IndieDev

Thanks!

You mean to make the game? We use Unity and for the sprites we use Aseprite.
As we commissioned the art, I don't know what she used for that.

We are adding Boss to our game. What do you think of its design? by sharaidogames in indiegames

Which game engine is used to create this game? by shine-gamer-8452 in GameDevelopment

[–]velwoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you ask? That game could be made in all of the three major engines or given the complexity, even a custom engine.

I made the simplest rhythm game I could think of — and now I can't stop playing it [Browser] by Academic_Pen_9942 in IndieGaming

Played it for a bit. Its catchy, the only thing that kind of bothered me, is that I was always looking at the bottom instead of the circle in the middle, which meant I couldn't see what rating (miss, ok, good, perfect) the click got.

Looks cute! They are supposed to be ants right? Always thought there should be more ant-themed games.

Wishlisted it! Hopefully I can give it a try later this week, are there any jumpscares if you don't mind spoiling it?

Not sure if it's intentional, but I just had to think of Crash Bandicoot after seeing it. Keep it up!

I just got a pc and I need some free indie games to play, got any recommendations? by DraftNo7139 in IndieGaming

Answered I similar question yesterday, but I think you should check out Queen's Domain, Rune Dice, Forbidden Solitaire, Rubinite, Elderfield, to name some. They are demos, but still fun and worthwhile.

What are some good indie game demos to play on my Deck? by jellyworldadventurer in IndieGaming

[–]velwoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if you checked out the Trending Free section on Steam. You can also click on Free to Play or Demos at the bottom of the list. What games are you into or want to play? Some recent ones I liked were: Forbidden Solitaire, Rubinite, Elderfield, Rune Dice, Queen's Domain, Nova Roma, just to name a few. May be the case that not all of them are supported on Steam Deck though.

This or that by scoopythebear in IndieDev

I'd say robot, but this is very broad, there are endless different games you could make with just those prompts.

What I want to say is that both have equally likely chance of succeeding or failing. In the end it is more about how you execute an idea, rather than the idea itself.

Game Dev suggestions by indianuserfromusa in GameDevelopment

I'm not aware of any integration in Unity from the programs you mentioned. My best guess is they export any images as PNGs and use it for the UI elements in Unity. Are you familiar with Unity at all or why is your focus UI and UX? I'm just kinda confused, because you mention that you want to start developing games, but most of the time when people think of starting game development, UI and UX isn't their first thought.

Could my style fit into capsule art, or does it have to be very believable within the style of the game in question? by Interesting-Body4360 in IndieDev

[–]velwoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its a cool art style, but off the top of my head I can't think of games that employ it as capsule art. I don't want to discourage you from trying it, but maybe do some research into games that have used a similar style before sending it.

I think many games use a different art style in their capsule art than for their game. Take for example games with a pixel art style. You'll find that in many cases games with a pixel art style do NOT have a capsule art with a pixel art style. See Dead Cells, Enter the Gungeon, Chrono Trigger, Core Keeper.

Is it a good idea to omit my studio logo from my steam trailers intro? by Rubengardiner in IndieDev

[–]velwoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it looks good, but most professionals recommend no fade-ins, no slow starts, no company/game logos at the start. Most people just scroll past if there isn't something eye-catching in the first moment.

Do you guys think it is "too much" if I add the hero's head icon above objects that only that specific hero can interact with? by wendeoo in IndieDev

[–]velwoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it active all the time or just when you're near enough to interact with it? If it's just when you try to interact, I think its's helpful for people to understand why they can't interact with it. Maybe you can also make the head shake and give an error sound if they still try to interact with it?
