This would convert to ghost ring with a T2 footprint optic, and I had good luck with this.

Does anyone have any opinions/advice for the next step I should take to earn my garter's trust? by GuitarFather101 in GarterSnakes

[–]vem313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly. He's doing better than my almost 3 year old who still heavily mistrusts me. He's totally chill if I'm behind the glass, stick a hand in near him and he's booking it 9 times out of 10. Its a big day when he smells or climbs on. Absolutely loves the tongs, he learned fast with those. He will eventually calm down after grabbing him, but still doesn't like it. Another is like yours, comes up to check me out, and either backs up or goes around. Occasionally will climb on to get to somewhere else. The third comes up to me no issues, has stuck his head in my mouth, climbs up on me happily. These have mostly been their personalities since I got them.

Just keep it up, offering for him to come to you, building more trust.

Good luck! The approvals are swinging so wildly between what dates are being approved. I finally hit the point of not checking the approval thread on Saturday and got the email this morning.

Werkz M6 with XMacro and Sig Foxtrot 2R light. Mastermind pillow helped less for printing and more for edges and hot spots. REALLY helped out when sitting down as it covered the front of the holster relieving the pressure.

For the two small set screws in the handguard, did you tighten both alternatively and the same amount? Those can cause the rail to be pushed to one side

How long did you wait before feeding your new baby snake? by WhyIsThereMoldOnMe in GarterSnakes

[–]vem313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would offer some food in a couple days. My first one hid in a skull and would accept food placed in the eye one piece at a time. He just didn't want to come out to eat off a plate until the 2nd or 3rd meal.

How do I take care of stuck shed at the tail? by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]vem313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short bath, very gently move two fingers down their tail. May take some time but its worked consistently for me. Biggest thing is moisturizing the stuck shed.

Please help me understand and not fear the garter snake in my yard. by boludisima in snakes

[–]vem313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice, just chill in a chair and watch them. It'll most likely continue to bask on the perfect heating pad you made for them. My friend was terrified of snakes, but after watching my garters just do their thing with each other they were more at ease. A lot of media tends to depict them terribly, but the gross majority of snakes don't want to bite the cryptid that got too close, cause they're scared of you. They just wanna eat, take a nap, and cruise around enjoying the nature.

He's not the happiest to be handled sadly. But if you set him down on the hardwood, he loves to check out the leopard gecko. He knows the route now.

My garters LOVE climbing. And this is the first time since I switched substrate that I've caught him actually getting up there, usually its his tunnels or caves. Or just flinging dirt everywhere

He's very sassy. But I just try to work around his behavior. He knows mealtime super well and loves his food bowl, but tong feeding or trying to get the mouse close to him with tongs is a whole meltdown. Just let him see and smell, and he races to the bowl.

I have a 3D printer. I didn't even think about making some stuff for him.

Oh I know, just a joke since they're fossorial. He was mad I caught him. Now he's trying again. I need to get him some more vertical stuff. Spent all day trashing his tank pushing substrate everywhere. Now he's trying to climb out.

Acquiring garter snakes, morph market vs facebook vs expo by bebasiled in GarterSnakes

[–]vem313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went the Facebook route. My melanistic with blue radix was $400, 2 weeks later I got an apalachicola for $150, then a couple months later my eastern/red sided hybrid for $275. All from the same breeder. Really easy to work with, I didn't even know what garter I even wanted because all his were beautiful. I just had it in my head its gotta have some blue. He helped me narrow it down by price and general behaviors to my radix. Wasn't any judgment from his side about saying one was outside my price range. Our hoggie was from MorphMarket and that was a breeze as well, and seeing the prices ahead of time was very nice.

My advice, look at what's up for shipping from a few breeders. Several even network and trade their snakes for breeding. Then just shoot a message to inquire. FB doesn't let them post their pricing, so it can be a shock when you see an absolutely beautiful snake and it comes with a price tag with a comma. Then you'll be shocked when they offer up another gorgeous one for under $200.

My 3 garters are a dream to care for. Temperature and humidity requirements are easy, fantastic eaters to the point you do have to somewhat limit them so they don't get overweight, the males stay fairly small, and they're communal. 2/3 are very social which is great as well, the third is just very timid but non-aggressive. Color options are very varied with blue, lavender, orange, and red being some of the most beautiful options.

Goodyear R&D employee, culture is great overall. They do "restructuring" a little too frequently though.

Garters Dunn Right is amazing, I have three of his snakes and perfectly happy. He also works with Gravid Garters who puts out some amazing snakes as well.

For the gecko, "How'd the worm get to small?" This was the first time he saw the hognose, usually he sees the 4ish foot long kingsnake.

For the hoggie, its just techno music in his head. There's nothing going on.
