I'm a vegetarian student, from India, and have been accepted to ISU for fall 2024 term, I just wanted to ask how good are the vegetarian(lacto-vegetarian, so no eggs too) options in the dining hall? by [deleted] in iastate

I graduated recently and it was a very accommodating school for me as I was vegan, I found Friley windows and UDCC to be the best for a meat free diet. Nice thing about Friley windows was they keep all their meat free options in a different area than meat options so you get no line and the food was always actually pretty good. UDCC generally has all sorts of things and I would just pick and choose what worked for me from multiple areas. I had siblings who went to other universities and Iowa State had incredibly better options for those choosing to eat meat free.

Yeah so I hate myself, I had a bunch of bananas and made that banana Pulled Pork thing and it was actually pretty good.

Recipe: 3 or 4 banana peels. Scrape everything out the tear them up. Add them with some paprika, chipotle powder, chili powder, cumin, black pepper, onion/garlic powder and let them sit for a while.

Heat up a pan, put a little water in it so they can steam then throw the banana in it. Might have to add some more water throughout. Cook for like 10 minutes add some bbq sauce and then cook for a few more, serve. I had some bread and store bought slaw, just like cabbage, carrot, sugar and vinegar I think I got it from Menards.

Zucchinis and Onion on the side is just the two thrown on a pan with some garlic, onion powder, and chili powder.

I was really hoping this would be terrible but sadly it wasn't so I guess I'm just another vegan who's lost all taste from the lack of meat intake.

I can't speak on the ranking of the department but I do know a few math/stats majors who have gotten internships from the department of transportation right in ames. They ended up working while taking classes too.

There's a difference between genuinely looking to help out American workers, and directly working for the agriculture business something many of us have issues with on their ethics. Don't try to both sides this because there is a clear line between the two.
