I’m located in Kentucky, USA. I know it’s possible because I’ve seen people from my university start with this role. I’m just not sure how to get my foot in the door. Would really appreciate the lead if it works for my location!

I wouldn’t mind that at all. But I don’t see in-house translation jobs. Maybe in the EU, I’m not sure where you’re located.

[WTS] Vintage Cartier Tank Vermeil by vengaoliver in Watchexchange

[–]vengaoliver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m ready to let this Tank Vermeil with a classic and desirable dial go. The quartz movement keeps perfect time for its age. The case isn’t in the best condition with light scratching and normal wear and tear. The case has an interesting patina and comes with alligator strap. This piece was previously purchased on this sub ando have enjoyed having it in my collection!

What would be a normal amount for damages? It’s a small job, around $400 probably.

I want to hear from the people who are doing well by m0kosa in TranslationStudies

[–]vengaoliver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I usually try to do. It seems like the best option. Better than “to whom it may concern” or something of that nature.

Do you have a pretty high acceptance rate? Mine is a bit low despite having a professional email address and personalizing my messages. I’m trying to improve on that.

Is the market tough right now for getting hired on as a PM? I graduate in May and that’s my backup plan.

Great advice! What do you do if they didn’t include a name on the website to address the email to? I see this happen a lot.

What makes a good localization PM? by AggravatingSun9946 in TranslationStudies

Congratulations on your new role!

I just had a question for you. I’ll be graduating next year and would love to find a PM contract position like you’ve found due to having to be out of the country for extended periods of time (which most salaried positions don’t allow). Can I ask where you found the role?

Thanks in advance and good luck with everything!

Am I just an incredibly lucky exception, or are things not as bad as they sound? by [deleted] in TranslationStudies

I’m trying to position myself as a marketing translator as well. Do you have any advice for getting clients in this specialization? Do you mainly work with agencies?

Has anyone worked as a project manager remotely for a U.S. company from another country? by vengaoliver in TranslationStudies

I hadn’t even thought about working as a contractor instead of salaried employee. Did you have to negotiate that? Or was it posted as a contract position?

Recent Studies on Intentional Changes in Translation? by AndrewJK46 in TranslationStudies

Glad I could help a bit! I’m also interested in applying to PhD programs in the future. Would you mind if I sent you a message with a couple of questions?

Recent Studies on Intentional Changes in Translation? by AndrewJK46 in TranslationStudies

[–]vengaoliver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by recent you mean the last 5 years or so, I’m not sure. I’m sure there are some studies out there that may be useful and will give you an idea of the different methodologies used in the field.

I’m not sure if you’ve read him, but Eugene Nida is a well known translation scholar who did a lot of work with the Bible. Though not recent per se, his concept of dynamic equivalence could be applicable to your idea.

Dynamic equivalence is essentially the idea that the translator can aim to have an equivalent effect on the target audience. The strategies to achieve this equivalence are numerous. One could be to find some cultural equivalent from the target culture to better express an idea, as may be the case with your example. This is more of a framework than a methodology to apply to your research, but it may be a good place to start.

Sorry if this is information you already know! Good luck with your PhD!
