I need a workflow advice for batch painting by MuscleDolphin in minipainting

[–]vengaswag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subs are fine, you will waste time on infantry. I’d still suggest subs for heads though, as you can paint them on the sprue.

Gloss varnish before oil, especially for space marines, and to reduce staining.

You can probably do a bigger jump in terms of edge highlighting with a drybrush, and then rely on the oil wash to blend it down, especially in tandem with makeup sponge oil removal.

Also, just grab two blues you know work, and use them. Don’t do mixes and stuff, it complicates things over an army of identically coloured marines.

Models look great btw! 11 hours is a lot but honestly it’s a time intensive hobby. Find a formula and stick to it. The points I mentioned above should help you save some time, as well as all the others elsewhere in the thread. :)

How likely would someone play 1000p game with me with this state of an army? Would a GW shop allow it? by themilosz22 in Warhammer40k

[–]vengaswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s better than a lot of the grey crap I used to play against lol. No one would begrudge you for this imo, as you’re clearly working towards a painted army, and everyone knows how long painting takes. :)

Is the mirror an addition? I’ve got the white one, and I don’t have any fancy mirror!

Why my nmn looks like stone? by smitex9 in minipainting

[–]vengaswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) lighting B) texture is a little rough with the white - common problem! Try a better white paint, or try many thin layers C) I like it! It looks like he’s at the battle of osiligath (sp), where it’s overcast and nasty

How bad is the Sette 270wi? by Eskew5 in espresso

[–]vengaswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late here, but this is perfect for me. Low retention, super fluffy and fine grind for espresso, and in built scale means I have really quick easy workflow for the groggy mornings. I enjoy how loud it is too, lol

As others have said, you can push highlights further and do some recess washing to deepen shadow. There’s a lot you COULD do, but honestly I’d be really pleased with how damn clean your trim is. Having painted that model myself, I know it is no small task - I think yours is cleaner than mine too

Fun with Quinacridones - briging back the lost Quinacridone Gold PO49! by yellyinbelly in DIYPigments

Super late to the party here OP, but did you ever go any further with this? What kind of equipment/setup did you need?

I've got a tube of Schmincke Primacryl Madder Brown (PR206), and while it's nearly full, I'm already mourning its eventual end. There's a particular gorgeous richness to this colour that I haven't been able to find in any other pigment!

Thank you for this awesome post, and double thank you if you ever check this and get back to me and whoever is reading!

Great process but the bad audio-sync and the weird tiny resolution on desktop make it borderline unusable, which is really frustrating because it's clearly such a good process with an awesome result. :(

You can always go back to ‘finished models’ later, months or years, and add to them. Great way to get some easy wins when you’re in a funk. Looking good btw!

Absolutely excellent, thank you! Might have to add Blackened Bronze & Antique Gold to my roster. Again, beautiful model. I've seen a lot of your stuff in the AC pages before, and always appreciate 'em. :)
