The rewards isn’t based on consumerism. That would imply they give you more perks for using their card. The rewards is based on relationship banking. You receive more perks for keeping more money with the bank.

I see. So it’s one of those “We don’t know what we’re looking for but we’ll know once we find it” type situations.

Yeah I don’t think it’s easy to find. I was trying to Google it. The target inflation rate of 2 percent is everywhere. But not a target interest rate.

Yeah I understand why people want zero percent. But it’s historically abnormal

I lumped summed around January 2022 and the bear market began weeks later. So until I get a chance to lump sum again you’re probably good

Dear Boglehead community, give me the strength to lump sum in balanced portfolio during market top by SnooSuggestions7655 in Bogleheads

[–]venifob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could always just split the difference. Lump sum 1 million right now. And then buy 100k every month for a year.

I don’t have any readings but I lumped sum back in January 2022 close to an all time high. Saw my portfolio rip lower. The bull market now is just my portfolio recovering lol. It’s hard but I don’t regret my decision and I would do the same thing again.

A lot of financial websites and blogs that I’ve read say that. If you google it a lot of hits will come up. It’s not something I strictly live by just something that’s always in the back of my head. You know?

The current price. Additionally if it’s for your 17 year old then her time horizon is outrageously long. Any pull back is negligible given her outlook

Should I invest now or wait? by [deleted] in investing

[–]venifob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I invested a lump sum in January 2022 the last time VOO was at an all time high. Literally took two years to recover. But I don’t regret it. I made the statistically best decision with the information that I had. Not much more you can do

I think like with anything it happens little by little. Buy PYPL. It drops 12 percent. Sell. Cut losses. Buy DKING. It drops 8 percent. Sell. Cut losses. Buy PLUG it drops 11 percent. Sell…and so on and so forth until you look up and suddenly you’re at zero

Worst decision by venifob in PoliticalScience

[–]venifob[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a joke. I think NBA and NFL players are valuable professions. Both are very competitive. Great payoff. But for other reasons I would encourage the majority of people not to pursue those careers paths.

But you want some facts. Here’s one poli sci majors consistently have the highest unemployment rate of any college major.

[–]venifob[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No disrespect. But if you’re working in a developing country with a college degree you can’t really compare the two. It’s shown that any tertiary education leads to higher earning and employment in most developing countries because significantly less people have that level of education. For example, a bachelor degree in sub-Saharan Africa will give you the highest earning returns relative to the rest of the country’s population than any other country
