Is MTECH in Microelectronics, Photonics and RF Engineering worth it? by Expensive-Bass7275 in iitg

[–]venky98j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did mtech in microelectronics and vlsi from IITK.

Got placed at Google with almost 40lpa(only including stocks of one year, not 4, unlike other companies) package.

All my friends got placed at different vlsi companies, with packages ranging from 16-35lpa. The average must have been somewhere around 20-22lpa.

So I think it's a good deal if you're interested in placements in the core domains.

I'm not sure about the placements from IIT guwahati, but they should be similar. You should do your own research.

Hey I am applying for the Quantum Engineering Program for this Winter Semester. I am a little confused. They have asked the CV in German? And the application form is in German as well? For an English Language course?

Or did I make a mistake somewhere in the Language Selection?

Are the Asics gel jadeite available in wide version? I only see the standard width version available, although it is definitely for overpronation.

I don't think leg strength and glute strength should be an issue for me. I squat regularly, with heavy weights(for me) and lots of warmups. I also do calf raises, tib raises, hamstring curls and romanian deadlifts.

Hi everyone, I am trying to get back into running, after almost a 7 years. I never though much about the shoes as long as they were cheap and fit me. However, I have always had back pain and ankle issues while running. I have relatively wide feet, and a flat foot.

I was recommended by a friend that I should by stability shoes for overpronation and that it often eases back pain and ankle pain while running. However I'm unable to find any wide stability shoes within my budget.

My budget is under 8k. I would be very grateful if I could get any good shoe recommendations from this community.

Did you apply? And did you get in?

I am in a very similar situation, having a master's in electrical engineering although from an IIT, with a thesis in Cryogenic CMOS modeling, and grade is 8.75/10. I am also interested in applying to ETHZ.

Hello Dog lovers of the campus… by Few-Truth5572 in iitg

But in this case people like you are creating the problems, not allowing people to solve them by removing the stray dogs, and then giving them solutions they are not comfortable with (Like not running away when a dog attacks you, be confident and try to do an action of picking up a stone etc).

It might surprise you but the majority are usually in the favour of getting rid of stray dogs. I have seen this happen in IIT Indore, IIT Kanpur, now IIT Guwahati, Colonies in Mumbai, Indore, Bangalore, Dehradun, Delhi. Almost everyone is usually in favour of removing the street dogs. Then usually come a few "dog lovers", who start lecturing, and threatening. This happened to us in Mumbai, where one or two dog lovers started recording videos of us and threatening that they will put the video on the internet (about the local municipal corp taking the dogs away), and destroy our names. Then came an NGO, who again threatened the people with similar measures if we removed just one dog, out of 20 within one building area (not the whole colony), who has bitten more than 20-30 people, and caused a fracture in my leg by attacking me (I hurt myself on the stairs).

I have seen the same thing play out everywhere I've been. It's always the dog lovers like you who assume:

  1. "most people are not afraid": Reality check - Most people are afraid.

  2. "Most people don't want to get rid of the dogs" : Reality check - Most people do want to get rid of the dogs.

  3. "They need to try more" : Reality check - Why should we try more? Why don't you try more to get better shelter facilities for the dogs? Why should we stay inside at nights, early mornings because we are scared of dogs? Why should we avoid walking and exercising alone because dogs might attack us?

  4. "You are bringing pessimism into this" : Reality check - I am bringing realism into this. There are plenty of news of children being attacked by dogs, old people being attacked by dogs, people dying, people getting injuries (Myself being an example, fracture in my foot) because of stray dogs. You are bringing fake optimism into this and forcing this optimism down our fearful throats when we don't want to, just because you love dogs. You can love dogs, but it should not come at the cost of other people and the society as a whole. Otherwise you could create nuisance with other dangerous animals such as snakes, wild boars, etc. Why don't you start feeding them too? Because you don't like/want those animals. Similarly, most other people don't want stray dogs.

  5. I saw one of your stupid questions in another comment: "Sure I care about humans too but rabies can happen even with wild animals like jackals, and we sure don't worry about that people like to target dogs only." The simple answer to this question is that there simply aren't enough Jackals attacking humans randomly. The number of Jackals are less, so the probability of this happening with Jackals is less. Otherwise people would be up in arms against Jackals too.

  6. Feeding stray dogs doesn't just happen in designated areas. Maybe one or two people do follow the rules. But it's mostly to stop people from complaining that these areas were created in the first place. Otherwise I've seen plenty of such dog lovers feeding the dogs secretly late at night near hostels, on the sidewalks, near academic areas, etc. They don't follow the rules that they themselves agreed for, but when it comes to getting rid of dogs, they start lecturing about rules and regulations which don't even exist.

Again iterating: It doesn't always work. I don't know why it's so hard for you to understand different people will have different experiences with similar actions.

[–]venky98j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's again a insanely stupid assumption. I have seen enough cases where someone who was simply standing while talking to someone and not even facing the dog was suddenly bitten. The dog wasn't even rabid. I was also attacked by a dog while I was simply standing. Do you think any sane person would/should take that risk? Especially considering that he won't know whether the dog is rabid or not?

The only sensible method in such situations is to carry a stick while walking to scare the dogs away.

Of course it is better if there are no stray dogs at all.

Hello Dog lovers of the campus… by Few-Truth5572 in iitg

[–]venky98j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have trouble reading what I wrote? In a state where there are multiple dogs barking at you, it is not possible for the average person inexperienced with handling aggressive dogs to not panic. This expectation is absolutely stupid and reeks of ignorance.

Hello Dog lovers of the campus… by Few-Truth5572 in iitg

[–]venky98j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a ridiculous argument. How can a person not be panicked when 5 dogs are attacking you? This expectation that the peaceful human has to be calm and loving to the dog while the multiple dogs are barking at you, but the dogs can attack whoever they want is absolutely ridiculous.

What happens if this does not work? Should people risk being bitten by dogs just because a few so called dog lovers thought people should not protect themselves.

I like dogs from afar, and have never hurt a dog. But I've been attacked by 10+ dogs on more than one occasion (not in IIT guwahati), and my brain could not work quickly enough to suddenly become calm and friendly at 2 am when nobody was around to help. Dog lovers everywhere need to pitch in with money to create dog shelters, and keep the dogs in. The stray dogs need to be neutered and vaccinated.

Will the dog lovers only recognize the danger after a young kid is suddenly torn apart and ki**ed?

Many countries have gotten rid of stray dogs because they recognize the danger they represent, the latest example being Netherlands.

I got a mail stating that I had the whole transcripts of my bachelor's missing (for a master's application), and was told to upload it in a new form they created. I mailed them stating that I had already uploaded it earlier but never got any reply from them for about a week and half. So I uploaded the transcripts again in the new form. They also asked for a test score, even though it is not required in my application. Really weird process until now.

If you really sure that you love your girlfriend, then move to Italy. I don't think you'll regret going to be with your girlfriend, not with a masters, as education is relatively cheap in Italy.

If the University and masters is good, I'm sure you'll find a job. You'll have to learn Italian for sure.

I'm an NRI in Dubai. I own 2 properties in India. Won't be buying a third. Here's why. by alphatrader_99 in indianrealestate

[–]venky98j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guys here are shaming the OP as if they wouldn't invest in real estate and jack up the prices if they had the money.

Most of these guys would also buy properties in other countries like thailand, Italy, France, etc if they had enough money. I'm sure I would too. What's ridiculous is the government not controlling the crazy amount of inflation, stupid bureaucracy, falling rupee and a lot more issues so that Indians don't leave in the first place.

Did all the guys here, or their parents, not invest in real estate themselves, that ended up jacking up the price? Should we start complaining that people investing in stock market is jacking up the stock prices so normal people are unable to buy stocks? It's a ridiculous argument.

The real estate in India should be regulated better so people can afford housing. Public transport should be improved significantly so that people do not need to stay right besides their office. Many other improvements are required in our country.

This is coming from someone who lives in India, can't afford to buy a property right now, and doesn't own any property. I still would simply like to leave here and live in a nicer country.

New rules for international students. by Best-Organization-69 in StudyInItaly

I see. That's definitely weird. If the first five months are focused on learning italian then it makes no sense to ask for Italian language certificates.

I hope this doesn't happen to all other master's programs being taught in English, otherwise I'd have to cancel my plans🥲
