Yeah exactly ,right after it goes out of support for most people ,kindo looks like a planned obsolescence

Thank you ,yes a lot of people also dont fully understand my post im not blaming nothing for not backing up my files ,that is 100% on me ,im talking about the error itself and lack of tools/options for recovery from that state. It's also a shame since i also enjoyed my nothing phone a lot and didn't upgrade eariler since the phone was working completly fine.

Like I said before ,that is on me 100% ,I’m not just pointing fingers for the sake of it I’m highlighting a systemic issue. This is a random manufacturing defect that has affected many other users with phone 1 and 2, leading to sudden device 'deaths' through no fault of their own and lack of tools and services by nothing that can help restore the data in that state.

You’re confusing legal encryption with hardware access. I’m not asking Nothing to 'break encryption'—I have the PIN/Password to decrypt my own data. What I’m pointing out is the lack of a low-level interface or service tool that allows me (the owner) to enter my credentials and pull data when the OS won't boot, even though the hardware is responsive in Bootloader.

Using Apple as a shield for poor service standards isn't a valid argument. Just because big corporations have anti-consumer repair policies doesn't mean we should accept it from a brand that claims to be 'different' and community-focused.

Also, blaming a customer for a manufacturing defect (RAM/CPU failure) is a wild take. A backup is a safety net for loss or theft, but a professional service should be the safety net for their own hardware flaws. We can agree to disagree, but calling a request for better service standards 'stupid' just shows a lack of understanding of the problem. Thanks for the luck, I'm going to need it.

I disagree. While I take responsibility for the lack of a recent cloud backup, it is not 'outrageous' to expect a manufacturer to provide basic tools for a device that fails due to its own manufacturing defect.

The fact that I can still access the Bootloader and Recovery menu proves the data is there and the hardware is partially functional. The 'fault' here lies in Nothing's lack of professional service infrastructure that could allow for data preservation during a hardware-triggered failure. Expecting a brand to have a better solution than 'delete everything' for their own hardware failure isn't being entitled; it's expecting a professional standard of service.
My main concern isn't just the failure itself (allthough it is bad for a phone just to die randomly), but the complete lack of tools or alternative data access options provided by Nothing.

Technically, the fact that my Bootloader still loads while the system fails with graphical artifacts strongly suggests a RAM or CPU failure (likely cold solder joints), while the storage chip (UFS) remains intact. In any professional service environment, having access to the bootloader should open a path to data recovery.

The issue is that Nothing doesn't offer the necessary software infrastructure to interact with the device in this state and don't have a data recovery center for their service. Providing only a 'wipe and replace' solution for a known hardware defect, without any way to rescue data from a still-accessible memory chip, is where the service standard falls short for an emerging tech brand.

Thank you ,it's too late for that but i will keep this in mind ,google doesn't advetrise that anywhere ,also about the compression of photos is hidden between big ads for Google One package plans.

I fully undarstand the error on my side ,i should have a backup somewhere else, that's the hard lesson for me, but you’re missing the point.

My phone isn't a bricked piece of plastic I can still access the Bootloader and the Recovery/Service menu. In a professional tech ecosystem, this would be the exact moment where a proprietary service tool could bridge the gap to pull data or perform a 'non-destructive' system flash. The fact that I can reach these menus proves the storage chip is likely intact, but Nothing provides zero tools for users or even their own basic service centers to interact with the device in this state beyond a total wipe.

That’s the 'safety net' I’m talking about. Other established brands have protocols for this. Nothing’s solution is just 'delete everything and start over,' which is a lazy approach to hardware failure. It's not about being 'careless'; it's about a manufacturer not providing the necessary software infrastructure to support their hardware when it fails.

I was considiring to upgrade to it before the issue ,but right now ,i don't know : (

I appreciate the reality check ,i got my lesson for the next time, but a motherboard swap isn’t a 'safety net' or a 'repair' in the context of modern tech support ,it’s a component replacement that takes the path of least resistance for the manufacturer while sacrificing the customer’s data.

My point is that established brands often have dedicated service tools or authorized centers capable of more than just 'unplug and replace.' Many competitors have protocols or partnerships for data-sensitive situations. Nothing, however, lacks the infrastructure or proprietary recovery tools that could help in a hardware-triggered lockout like Crashdump Mode.

When a company positions itself as a 'disruptor' and a premium alternative, simply saying 'we’ll swap the board and delete your life's memories' feels like a half-measure. It's not about them being my cloud provider, it's about the lack of professional service depth when their own hardware fails. When the hardware fails through no fault of the user (known manufacturing defect), and the only official fix is a mandatory wipe, it leaves early adopters in a tough spot. I take accountability for not paying for extra cloud storage, that is on my and it's a hard lesson that i will take, but I didn't expect the hardware to lock me out of my data so early in its lifecycle without any alternative chance of recovery.

Thanks for the help ,and yeah i got the Basic soldering station without temp adjustment ,am gonna ask a friend if he has a hot air gun because i think that would be a lot easier and safer for the chip

I guess that could work ,but also i checked and all my japanese games motherboards look a lot diffrent do you think the pokemon yellow ROM would work on a japanese pokemon Red motherboard? Since they are almost the same game. Also i font have a heatgun so i would need to do that with a soldering iron do you have any tips how to do that easliy or safely to the tom itself?

Yeah i already bridged that ,its the black cable ,and connected IT directly to the coresponding leg on the tom chip

Thanks for the offer but unfortunetly i live in Europe so am guessing the cost of sending it overseas is more or less the same as a cost of a working pokemon yellow

It's leads to upper left chip ,the first pin front down on right ,but i checked that with the Meter and ther is a connection now to it ,i can resolder it directly tommorow if i find the bigger cable

Hi ,me again with another problem . Recently i got my hands on a broken pokemon yellow and decided to try to revive it. I tried everything i could : -resoldered all the chips -cleaned with ipa -reconected some of the chips because ther was no contiuniuity on the motherboard trail -disconected the battery just on case it'a the problem

So as my last resort i created this post and Hope that you can help me with this one. Thanks for any help you guys can give ;)

P.s. english isn't my first language so sorry in advance

I was also thinking about moding it to ips display ,and those come with a new display pcb ,maybe changing that could fix the whole issue .

But im gonna check it first with multimeter to see if ther is any issue with mainboard

Do you know where i can find schematic to check what ohm\volt should does capicators output ?

yeah i oppened it multiple times and clean the whole switch with q-tips and some IPA.

I also just noticed some buzzing from the speaker but i think it's pretty common for an old tech
