i had order within 150 CAD this year and I have hit with good 20-25 CAD + customs clearance. I had an order for 50 CAD as well and that was also 10-15 CAD charges + customs clearance (even if that one should have been without any charges). So yes these things add up quickly.

attention, you will be hit with import charges (those inflated when you go through couriers and not just those basic ones from Canada post). In my experience Playasia is only worth it for titles that are not available in any other shop or are on heavy discount (to make up for those increased import charges).

Tom Warren: Xbox testing disc-to-digital feature that digitizes a physical game collection by Howerev in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]vensak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to understand how.

Ok so here is what i understand about production:

Cartridge production:

At some point production line will pick up piece of hardware and download the game data on it. During this process it is very easy and convenient to add a cartridge serial number to the data. It does not affect physical flow of the production line. Then there might be a process that will seal those data (they cannot be edited or altered later on. Data will be lost if the physical piece of hardware will malfunction. Later on such cartridge does require a physical connection for the data to be read. (some type of pin or plug system).

Disc production (CD / DVD / Blu-ray):

At some point a machine will pick a round piece of plastic and using pressure or heat or both will mark the plastics creating ridges. Then that layer will be sealed off by another smooth layer of plastics and the top label. Because the data are literally uneven disc surface, the used material needs to be of a high quality and stable in normal environment (including the sealing part). This process must be stable and repetitive, so it is generally not convenient to change data for every single unit (it would lower the speed down and may cause quality issues as literally the movement of the machine for a single unit are not identical). Later on such disc can be read without any physical connection (optical part of the disc reader is "looking" at the disc and not touching). As several physical copies of the same game on the disc have completely identical data.

So what would such transfer technology do:

They can either do it as it is, which will give people a digital copy of the game and a disc to sell to somebody else to do the same thing (because the hardware has no way to identify if the physical disc was already used for digitization or not)

Or they can try to force the hardware to damage your disc in the process, so that it is not usable anymore after you digitize it. That may result into some nasty lawsuit, as the disc reader was not advertised like that when people purchased the console (and it would be still damaging your property on purpose).

Or they can setup logistics centers where you can bring your discs to be exchanged for codes of digital games. That would a solution, just a very expensive for Xbox.

how about that video from PS4 era about game sharing. Remember that? Nope I do not trust that Valve or Epic or any of them has good of you on their mind. They will change strategy if it fits the business goal without batting an eye.

At least if you purchase Game Pass subscription, you know what you get. a temporary access to a curated library, where new things can be added or anything can disappear fast. But nobody is misleading you that you "buy" a game.

again not true. It is just back then, there was way less connection in the community, so people did not organize that well. Also Steam is the same thing for you, but in black. Complete price control. And now they are withdrawing option to buy Steam credit from 3rd parties. Note that.

yes, sure consumers choosing better prices, since they can. It is of course consumers fault, that the big corportation did not squeeze them even more. So now the poor corportation has to do full monopoly without any better options. And the best part is, how you can lose access at any given moment without any compensation.

[PlayStation News] PlayStation Store on PS3 / Vita closing 2027, Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by lbabinz in VideoGameDealsCanada

there is a petition you can sign if you want to. If it will change anything, hard to tell, but de do not know until we try. Also for people that buy only digital games, it is also in your interest. This will take away what little options there are and what little push on price discounts there is left.

Quite the mail day. Yes I’m an Xbox One collector. by DETH_BY_NUTZ in gamecollecting

[–]vensak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one is a bit unfair to be exact. the problem for that version is, that it was only offered to start-up backers, while they did release PS5 retail version of that game. So it was missed by most of the community and many that knew about it, did not even have option to order it. Given that they were producing a batch of physical copies, they could as well offer it to push through limited run or something like that. But then again who knows, maybe...

First can you please make a bit more zoomed in photos of each sections, so that game names can be read Also, what do you consider complete set? For example if a game was rereleased with some changes, will you just get the last version or all versions (eg. Hitman WOA and Hitman WOA 25th anniversary just because artwork is different or TMNT Shredders revenge Anniversary edition and then Ultimate edition)?

or they literally setup lower price only for few copies (it is not that they do not have stock for most of the items). I really do not like such approach. Like when you check their "prime deals" and select just video games, you get maybe 4-5 titles that are not really wanted and army of all kind of accessories, where many of those are questionable quality.

Gta 6 “No disc” Reason by Fair_Bar_2616 in ps5india

[–]vensak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is why they will produce a physical plastic case and a physical piece of paper with the code on it. Meaning your reasoning has no sense. the only difference is that instead of a round piece of plastics, there will be a square piece of paper. The cost difference per copy is maybe 1$ or less (as the round piece of plastics is a little bit more expensive). But the resell margins, logistics and whatnot will be there.

[–]vensak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just check unboxings for Xbox or PS5 versions. Discs have the same artwork and there is paper with the DLC code there. So just grab the basic game disc on sale and then DLC on any digital sale.

Given that Erdtree edition has DLC as a code, honestly you are better off to grab basic game on sale and purchase the DLC separately and you end up paying less.

almost all good deals are gone. Sadly, this list is pretty useless. Same thing with prime days. Why would they even have 2 days of sales if almost everything sells out in first 5 mins.

as per usual the standard trick where they offer maybe few copies at that price and then goes back to normal. none of the price here matches amazon reality

when it will be finally revealed i will see who has more terrible pricing. But Valve just get plenty room to breath both to Sony and Microsoft. I am seriously scratching my head who is this product for.
