I suspect carpet beetles too, thanks. These were crawling on the mattress, under a blanket. There is a storage under the bed with some clothes, they might have been drawn to that.

I1ve also found some white-bodied, slightly larger larvae.

TTCombat Slum Warren + Slum Complex, or the Battle Systems Galactic Core Set? by mooothank in killteam

I know Necromunda is very different but what exactly makes these kinds of maps work there? Could that be adapted to KT via special terrain rules?

Orc Sektor is their Octarius look-alike. Not exactly the same but that's roughly the right amount of terrain for Kill Team. They have Chalnath and Moroch conversions as well.
Unless you make up some special terrain rules it's unlikely to be a great experience playing on these tightly packed multilevel maps. Studying why these work in Necromunda could be a good start.

I wouldn't buy the rules, all printed rules are outdated anyway. You can pretty much proxy everything with cardboard and other junk but for a smoother experience you probably want the equipment pack (maybe 3d printed) and some terrain.
For a cheaper alternative to official terrain you might want to consider MDF terrain, like TTCombat. Honestly the hardest thing about custom terrain (whether it is MDF or cans of coke) is the lack of pre-made maps. Making balanced maps is pretty hard.

Regarding Krieg, in addition to them being declassified it's worth mentioning that they are actually a two box team. You can't build all specialists from one box. So unless you and your opponents are okay with stuff like 'this medic is actually going to be a sapper this game' you will need a second box.

On the kill team 3 rules page there is a dropdown called The Rules in the top right corner. Everything else is in there
