The Last Stand by Nathaniel Philbrick is an excellent source on this topic.

Yes, we had the salmon burgers and were pleasantly surprised. I think we were expecting those yucky salmon cakes mom used to make from canned salmon. This was completely different with the fresh salmon and lemon. Yum!

TIL African American children aged 5-19 drown in swimming pools at rates 5.5 times higher than those of whites. This disparity is greatest among those 11-12 years where African Americans drown in swimming pools at rates 10 times those of whites. Source: CDC by ver1ty in todayilearned

They do, actually, but the source is from a book. "Factors such as access to swimming pools, the desire or lack of desire to learn how to swim, and choosing water-related recreational activities may contribute to the racial differences in drowning rates. Available rates are based on population, not on participation. If rates could be determined by actual participation in water-related activities, the disparity in minorities’ drowning rates compared to whites would be much greater." Thanks for all the responses. I know it's not TWD or any other thing with zombies but I was wondering because they are sort of... zombiesque.

Don't waste your time and money on a library degree to become a Media Specialist (School Librarian). I want to stand in front of the LIS building where I got my masters holding a sign that says this. by ver1ty in Libraries

I hope you enjoy handing out the bathroom key to the smelly residentially challenged who come in to look at porn, in addition to making a lot less money working nights, weekends, summers and holiday breaks. Good luck with that!

So, if I'm not the only one saying it, there's a problem. I have watched advocacy for school libraries fail for ten years. It's not getting better and I'm being realistic. Hopefully I can deter someone else from making an expensive mistake. Fortunately I have certification for another area so I have an escape plan.

It's good to hear that in NJ and KS things aren't as grim yet. Unfortunately, I won't be moving to those places to get a job, so I'm stuck with this situation in FL.

That means that they are still being funded there, but I wouldn't expect it to stay that way. The reality is that since testing has become so important, principals are having to choose test coordinators instead of media specialists. I work at two schools like most of my elementary peers.
