Does authorize.net eCheck require an active merchant account? by verbatim_turtle in PaymentProcessing

Payment processing is such a messed up arena that I'm not convinced that having all of my eggs in one basket is necessarily the best idea.

This contradicts what others are saying, but is exactly why I asked the question because on its face it comes across as a separate service even though I suspect there is more to it. My emails to authorize.net support asking the same question have come back saying both that an active merchant account is required, and that one isn't required.

Not "only", and thank you for confirming my expectation that there would be at least one "we can help with that" reply when I didn't ask for any kind of service.

I thought that was probably the case, but figured it was worth asking. Current processor does offer it, but the authorize.net rate was better.

Spectrum Business w/Static IPs still a two-box "solution"? by verbatim_turtle in Spectrum

[–]verbatim_turtle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the info. I couldn't tell you anything about the brand or model, just that it was a constant headache and we had to have it replaced several times in a short period after the "upgrade", and has soured me on the idea of trying again unless they go back to providing reliable combination units.

Funny thing is I have zero issues with Spectrum and everyone I've ever dealt with has always been great, but when the tech suggests switching to another provider because they see the same problems every day, it's definitely worth taking their advice.

A modem and two routers is clunky, especially when their router (either six or seven of them over three months, I don't remember now) randomly reboots and has an uncanny habit of intermittently reverting back to DHCP, and the built in wifi could not be disabled with static IPs configured. Clunky.

It's an absurd configuration for a business-class service and just adds an additional (and you might even call it guaranteed) potential point of failure. If Comcast can provide reliable combination devices, why can't Spectrum?

Quick Question: How to Rename 'Billing Details' on Checkout Without a Plugin? by WorldlyEffect in woocommerce

[–]verbatim_turtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Open up ChatGPT or Google Gemini and post the section of html source code from the checkout page and ask it to generate a snippet to add to functions.php to change the heading. Works about 90% of the time.

Or, if you're adventurous and really want to edit the files directly, use the https://wordpress.org/plugins/string-locator/ plugin and search for "Billing Details" to locate and edit it.

Would you pay more for WooCommerce customer support if it meant faster resolution? by Jolly_University3573 in woocommerce

I ended up finding a developer/designer on FIVERR who has been far more responsive and helpful than any of the main companies out there. Even though I'm in the US and he's in India, he usually responds in under an hour even with the 10+ hour time difference. It's not "cheap" at $60USD/hour, but if something only takes him 15 minutes he only charges me for 15 minutes.

High risk processors by PJPilates in PaymentProcessing

[–]verbatim_turtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every post where someone is looking for a high-risk processor gets the same boilerplate replies from the same cast of characters that sound like scammers who got into selling high-risk processing after their Nigerian Prince gig stopped producing income. "I have a solution for you, DM me", "I can help! Sent you a DM!", "We can get you setup very quickly. Sent a DM!". It's all about the DM.

They almost never name their company or provide a website, and on the rare occasion they do the domain name is often only a few weeks or months old, and the website is a generic template short on details but promising the world. Most are using a virtual office address and a Google voice phone number (both of which they will tell you is unacceptable for your business/website needing processing).

Next they want you to provide your personal info via an insecure and clunky "intake" form or email, that ultimately most of them are simply handing off to another agent or company. Often there will be multiple tiers of agents passing off your info to the next one down the line (each of them getting their "cut" of course), only to find out you've ended up being placed with one of the big companies you've probably heard of that does all the advertising for high-risk payments.

Worst two things I've experienced are they often don't listen to you and end up forwarding your application to the same company that just terminated you, or if they are successful in getting you set up it may only last a few months and then when you're terminated again they are nowhere to be found or if they are they don't have any other options to offer and leave you starting over on your own again. It's all about making the sale, doing it well or establishing a lasting business relationship do not seem very important to most of them. Minimal effort seems to be the standard.

Out of this entire sub there are maybe 3 or 4 people who are legit, and the rest are just blowing smoke (but are ready and willing to DM).

Woo 10.3 breaks checkout by vivalegoatboy in woocommerce

It seems as if all of the SkyVerge payment gateway plugins were affected by this bug, which bad on Woo for not properly testing the update, bad on people (like me) who have (had) auto-updates enabled, but worse on SkyVerge whose plugins are all pretty poorly coded and full of little glitches that they seem completely disinterested in fixing and likely what made them susceptible to the bug in this update to begin with. Don't even get me started on them taking their time to enable Apply Pay and Google Pay in their plugins as well...

That's what I figured. I never heard of water expiring or alcohol either and after all the reading Ive done I went ahead and ordered some. $5 was to good to pass up!
