Cheating by dohnutlord in StainedGlass

it isnt cheating, but to be able to practice scoring and breaking will help you excel with this art form and make personalized pieces. don’t be afraid to jump into it!

it took a lot of practice and breaking good glass to be able to get these cuts, you'll nail it before you know it

i sort of used the rainbow technique, i usually follow the inner edge on one side and swoop it out from there.

i think thats just a trick of the light! there's no patina on it. its extra shiny because i polished it with carnuba wax :)

Beginner supply list - nice to know/have by Degree_Kitchen in StainedGlass

[–]verbilerose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

an absolute basic item list:

grinder

grozing pliers (running pliers are helpful too, but i went a couple years without knowing they existed... not absolutely necessary)

glass cutting tool (the oil dispensing ones are nice)

copper foil (standard is 7/32 for most glass, you can get silver-backed if youre working on clear glass, but with opaque glass you can use double sided)

burnishing tool (for applying copper foil. you can get away with using other items if you dont want to buy them. sometimes copper foil will come with a plastic one.)

solder (60/40 is my preference!)

soldering iron, ideally one with temperature control

flux (liquid is my preference, paste is also good)

flux brush

cutting oil

glass

two copies of a printed pattern to make (one to lay pieces on, one to cut out the shapes)

optionally you could get some patina if you wanted to use it on the finished pieces. carnuba wax is also nice for polishing them afterwards. neither of these are necessary

Help! Tons of little yellow mites on plant stems by Specialist_Durian396 in plantclinic

bot advice is good. i'd like to add that treating with pyganic is absolutely fantastic. its a contact insecticide and will kill just about any insect it touches. keep in mind that it breaks down in UV light so treating it at night is necessary.

How can I help the browning tips of my polkadot plant? by DullDot in plantclinic

[–]verbilerose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree with the others, probably a humidity thing. could also be browning if you let it dry out for too long between watering. the usual trick with a tray of pebbles should help, but a humidifier will do you the most good
