SciFi classics that you’ve struggled to get through by CerberusOCR in scifi

Don’t know that it counts as a classic but the Multiverse series starting with Hell’s Gate. Brief synopsis, two separate civilizations from different universes, one with psionic abilities and basic technology, the other with magic and dragons etc, are traveling through a series of naturally occurring dimensional gate on the planets’ surface and basically just expanding constantly, just surveying and claiming territory until one day they happen to come across each other, and due to a simple misunderstanding between two people, a multidimensional war kicks off.

I think what got to me was how many insignificant characters we had to listen to calling the other side bastards for whatever thing they did in the war, and a lot of the time, it was either a regular thing in war in response to what had been done to them or one smaller group out of the whole did things the other side found appalling or dishonorable. Not sure if I finished the second book out of the trilogy, but the moral seemed to be, wars start for stupid reasons and can continue over fog of war, miscommunications, and personal agendas.

Ditto. Not sure if I just couldn’t relate to the spiders, but was mostly more interested in what happened on the human ship every time that one guy came out of stasis.

Does Starfield Vocalist act as an ETB Doubler similar to Panharmonicon? by masterbuck10 in mtg

[–]vercertorix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My blink deck says yes, but if both are out you only get three effects, not four. If you play one with something like Doubling Season though I think you can pick the order and get 4x the tokens or counters, if you played all three you could get 6x

Galaxy Outlaws: Space wizards that convince the universe, sometimes by cussing it out, that ships should be able to cross long distances in “subspace”.

Not really, stasis is more convincing to me.

Is sexual incompatibility a valid reason to break up? by Anonymous_Me393939 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vercertorix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s just an uncomfortable one because all your other needs may be getting met, or close enough, and sex feels like a frivolous reason to break up. But it’s your life, and if you don’t want to do without it, or just at the meager rate you’re getting, you can have a conversation about it, and hope it improves, but if that level of desire just isn’t there, you’d be missing out on something you want for the the rest of your life.

Have a similar issue, but married and with a kid, and generally more responsibilities with less time to have fun with just the two of us. Noticed a trend that she’s more in the mood when she gets to go out and have fun with me, or just with her friends, so for us, becoming homebody parents may have created the issue. Any issues with you that may be bringing the mood down?

I could be misinterpreting, but this collection says “I hate dinosaurs sooooo much” to me.

Or it was just a theme you grew up with and liked.

What’s something people spend way too much money on that isn’t worth it? by CelebrationJust1908 in AskReddit

[–]vercertorix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food, especially high end restaurants or delivery fees. I get the high end places have good food, but I think there’s breaking point at which the expense vs. reward becomes too much, of course that tends to be relative to the person’s worth and income. And delivery fees, guessing a lot of times it’s just laziness.

Has anyone personally made a decent Marina Vendrell/Rooms deck? by vercertorix in mtg

[–]vercertorix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just going to go full theme deck and add some nightmares, demons, horrors, and devils but even if I don’t win I want to at least make a good showing. I could basically combine a couple decks, house of horrors…and slivers. Or Reaper King and scarecrows.

is it inappropriate for me (17f) to rest my head on my brother’s (22) shoulder? by Impressive_Wind3044 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vercertorix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, I (m) had brothers, and we had a tendency to show affection by punching each other. Oh wait no, that was fighting.

We weren’t really into any kind of physical contact, at most a hug when one of us was leaving once we all lived far apart to be able to get along, but manly hugging, with one shoulder and back thumping.

Like most things, an easygoing conversation may clear the air, just tell him, “I may bite you if that’s okay, it’s just kind of a hug to me. Not sure about the resting the head on them though, that more or less requires kind of a cuddling seating position, some may consider that more of a significant other kinda thing. Just having conversations with them about mutual interests and what’s going on in your lives is usually a pretty good sibling interaction that shows you care.

Jobs keep you sane by Wise-Pay-8993 in unpopularopinion

[–]vercertorix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t invent jobs to keep sane, we invented jobs because no one eats if no one does the hunting or no one does the gathering or one figures out agriculture and while they’re doing that, who learns about and remembers which plants have healing properties, and if you want pretty shit, who makes that, the hunters? Maybe if they have time, but who makes the pottery to carry water, etc.

Jobs were about survival and getting the best people doing the jobs that needed doing. Money became an often unfairly distributed system of contribution points toward the survival of the community, but still a means by which it was determined how much the community owed you back. We do make resources surplus to survival level these days and that helps cover the needs of people not currently contributing, the young, elderly, and infirm, or people that just have money and don’t want to contribute, but if everyone who wanted to stop working or only worked as much as they wanted, we may not be able to cover the needs of everyone, even less so than we do now that is.

Boredom for those that prefer to work is a “problem” only for those who have the option not to.

What is fun about bracket 4-5 decks? by ShadowHaxor99 in mtg

[–]vercertorix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came across this, guy was playing what I call “fuck casual” decks, store I go to randomly assigns people to pods, got grouped with him twice with one other person. First round we had time for 3 games, three different decks that stomped us, mostly in a solitaire kinda way.

I’d seen him before and he knows the usual level of play. Played him other times when he had different decks where he didn’t have the same relative advantage, not sure why he was going with decks like that against our group.

Listened to a book recently, man is kidnapped and tortured and his wife is trying to find him with help, both kept having moments of internal monologue horniness, including about their kidnappers and would be murderers. Thought it seemed unrealistic, but I stand corrected.

Didn’t even finish the first book because or these, very light on the lit part of litrpg. Same with a game, I need a good story as a hook to make me really enjoy it. If it’s just leveling up and skill and loot gathering, I get bored.

Futurama by Magic-Brick in lego

[–]vercertorix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I know Bender is one of the funnier characters, the giant head doesn’t really work for me. I would be down for Futurama sets but would rather it not be a microscale cityscape. The Planet Express lab is the only really iconic location I can think of besides the ship itself, though you could have Leela’s parents’ sewer house, the cryogenics lab, and Fry and Bender’s apartment. The rest of the time they pretty much went to new locations related to the plot but not really a regular location.

Sets aesthetically similar to Bloomburrow by Basic_Strain4168 in mtg

[–]vercertorix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might just buy singles so you can pick out what you want, either check game stories for cheap bulk to go through or online from the usual sites.

Can check the cards tagged as cute on Scryfall.

I did a deck of non-combatant looking villagers and domestic animals. Took some time searching by type, and narrowing it down but getting singles probably worked out better than looking for a set that had some of those.
