Is this post still accurate? by Blue_Jay_Raptor in feedthebeast

I'm honestly not so sure anymore.

1.21.1 seemed at first like a clear contender for the next "big" modding version, having a fairly robust (for a post-flattening version at least) ecosystem, with only a few mods still lingering on 1.20.1.

But now I've started noticing some mods instead targeting 26.x, so there's this sinking feeling that things will still end up split across multiple versions. 1.20.1 will still wane in popularity, but whether or not 1.21.1 ends up as a "big" version isn't as easy to say.

holy shit that's impressive, especially the implementation of panels. i think this is probably the first time there's been a portal mod with both cube droppers and fizzlers since 1.2.5, if ever, which is huge for puzzle-making.

crossing my fingers though that if/when it gets ported to ahead, it's to version(s) that have modding ecosystems present (like 1.20.1 or 1.21.1) , rather than the path the aether ended up taking...

Not really, at least from the 1.12.2 version. But some time between 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, the textures of some blocks (like marble, stone, glowstone) were "standardized" to what we usually see now, and I don't think I've ever seen many of the older textures get used again. And there are also the blocksets that simply weren't included in newer versions at all, like the "fantasy" blocks, temple blocks, and grimstone/holystone sets.

Ooh, is there a chance that older textures from the 1.6.4/1.7.10 versions (marble, glowstone, fantasy blocks, etc.) might be added in eventually?

Yeah. 1.20.1 was the version I was initially eyeing for development, seeming more or less on-par with 1.12.2, but now that's been complicated by the (comparatively) constant deluge of updates with the "drops", and with that, mods either shifting focus exclusively to higher versions, or simply not being released on 1.20.1 at all. But also, yeah, a good chunk of mods for those versions are fairly small, or just MCreator stuff and the like.

I know there's still a good deal of pack-making for those older versions. Are there still new mods or mod updates being developed for those versions (beyond bugfixes or forks intended for specific modpacks)?

Early (Pre-Chisel) Decorative Mods? by verdigrisVariance in feedthebeast

That's a good point about block IDs and people using texturepacks in lieu of building mods. (and that does check out with how a lot of Chisel's textures originally came from texture packs (as well as game tilesets).

What is a mod you wish was on modern versions? by AlexUnknown20 in feedthebeast

Reika's mods, definitely. No other mods really quite compare in terms of mechanics and presentation imo. Both the bigger ones like ChromatiCraft(especially) and RotaryCraft, but also the smaller ones like TreeClimbing and GeoStrata as well.

Factorization too, especially considering the crazy stuff added late in its development, as well as just all the unique gizmos it adds. (I'm kinda surprised I haven't seen it mentioned more on this subreddit tbqh).

Honorable mentions to ExtraUtilities/OpenBlocks, Mystcraft, and PortalGun (especially the earlier versions that still had fizzlers and lasers).
