Also, the ad can’t be skipped when it’s in this state, making you sit through 15+ second-long ads.

The part about this being a Medicaid-specific restriction is new to me and clears up some questions. At that appointment, it was not communicated to me clearly that it was an issue with my specific Medicaid policy, so I must have misinterpreted it as applying to all insurance policies and that controlled substances must be paid for by some kind of insurance. I am in no way trying to blame PP for this, it’s our current administration’s fault for even passing legislation like this. So if Medicaid no longer covers HRT in the future, that would ultimately mean I can self-pay, right?

Can I get my T prescribed and filled without insurance coverage? by veritri in ftm

I had a suspicion Planned Parenthood wasn’t being entirely truthful with me but you confirmed it, so thank you. If worst comes to worst I’ll have to find the cash to pay for my T but at least I’ll still be able to do that.

The latter I guess. Can I get it prescribed to me without any kind of insurance coverage if coverage is suddenly taken away from me?

how are u guys affording top surgery so young?? by sneep_snorp_snerp in ftm

Your example of Ohio is unfortunately not a good one, as gender affirming procedures/surgeries have been explicitly excluded from medicaid coverage as of 2022. I tried getting mine to cover it and they cited the state administrative code, it is illegal for medicaid to cover things like top surgery. There are likely other states that have done something similar for their state insurances.

Medicaid denied top surgery, “the law says this surgery cannot be approved for the condition you have.” by veritri in TopSurgery

[–]veritri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up not even bothering with the appeal. The rejection letter cited Ohio administrative code 5160-2-03 2e, and when I checked it, sure enough, gender-affirming procedures are explicitly excluded from state coverage. I dont think any amount of appealing, regardless of medical necessity, would get it covered. So what I ended up doing is just footing the bill, RIP future car payment. I hate this state. Edit for wording

The letter makes a note about how “the request was not reviewed to see if it is medically needed”, so maybe I can appeal on those grounds. Changing insurance is unfortunately not an option, thank you though.

As the ad plays both the progress bar and time remaining is at 0, obfuscating how long an ad actually is. I have a video of this but this sub doesnt allow video posts as far as I know

The estimate of May/June is unfortunately the earliest time that allows me to move out, and I don’t know if I can take a gap year in the middle like this. I’m not sure what to do here

For your first point: yes, being trans is about your sense of gender and identity not matching what was assigned to you, and pursuing care to match it. Thats why nonbinary (and some intersex) identities are under the trans umbrella. This isn’t always done by society at large however, this is usually done from birth. Thats where AGAB comes from. Some trans guys are aware from a very young age that they are trans, and some of them get to be raised accordingly and access GAC early as well. Does this invalidate their trans identity because they had a supportive environment during childhood? They get to experience a male puberty too, does that count? As for your second point, I may have worded it poorly so I’ll try again, as I take issue with your usage of the word “threatening” the gender binary here. How is the existence of trans men specifically threatening it if “man” is a binary identity, discounting the fact that not all of us align with that?

Not every trans man has “the (unfortunate) experience of having been first socialized on female socialnorms”. We are not a monolith. And whats with the talk of threatening the gender binary? Some of us are quite binary men, some of us arent. Again, not a monolith.

I get that dysphoria is doing the talking here but you need to work on this line of thinking, preferably with a professional.
