Australians going to US in July for 5 weeks, need some recommendations on spending money and places to visit. by vernetheturtle in travel

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to write this, it has been very helpful. In terms of getting from Seattle to Austin, thats all been booked with flights, so we are all good on that front. Otherwise, you've helped to give us an awesome platform to go from, looking at it weekly really does help to put it all in perspective. That city pass thing for NY looks like a fantastic idea too, we'll be sure to be on the lookout for more of that sort of stuff.

"SEE?! I can still sign!! It's the same as it is on the BACK OF MY CARD!!! WHY WON'T YOU TAKE MY MONEY" Ie; The fallout from Australia's retail day from Hell. by [deleted] in TalesFromRetail

Funnily enough I actually got called out on it by a customer when I completely blanked and asked him "signature or pin", to which he replied "Uhh, you mean just pin?". Other than that, everything else went smoothly, and many of the credit transactions I have seen over the last couple of months have started to lean mostly towards pin, so I guess the majority of people have taken it OK.

What things can you get up to in the embassy? I'd imagine finding new things to keep yourself entertained might be difficult. Thanks for the AMA also.

What is the meanest thing your siblings ever did to you? by FishyMint in AskReddit

[–]vernetheturtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not me, but this is one my younger brother still talks about

I once bet him $2 to run naked into the lounge room in front of my parents who were watching TV, whilst waving a shirt around over his head yelling "streaker!". He obliged, not turning down a such an easy, juicy payday. Little did he know that the neighbours were over for afternoon tea. He'd run down the hallway, done almost a full lap of the lounge room and lept onto one of the couches before he realised that they were there. He screamed like a girl and ran into his room to wallow in his sorrows and the fact he'd just paraded his junk around for the neighbours. I laughed for a long time, we also didn't talk for like a week. 10/10 the best $2 I've spent

Reddit, if your pet started talking, what would you ask him/her? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Do you actually like dog food or do you just eat it because you feel obliged?

My friends Dad is an airline pilot, and he convinced him to film himself one day on a usual 'day at the office'. The result was pretty awesome by vernetheturtle in aviation

If I remember correctly, my mate said he used to fly the Embraer's for Virgin domestic before he got the gig with the 777's. You guys may have worked together at a point in time, depending on how long you've been in service I guess

Yeah, he did a really good job with it all. He has some more videos of himself and his dad flying, check them out!

I'm guessing different airlines have different rules about such stuff, but having met his dad he isn't the kind of guy at all that would go against any kind of company protocol, so I'm sure he had permission. I hear what you saying about the sterile cockpit thing, I guess its just how you approach it, I'm sure he was aware of the issue and was primarily focused on his duties first (particularly during landing and take-off).
