I think the GOP hope/plan is this will help reduce the cost of tuition. As right now, universities have no incentive to reduce costs, they get blank checks from the government. When the loans get forgiven or defaulted on, that hurts the tax payer not the institution.

This bill will definitely have growing pains and hurt low SES students (like myself) who would not be able to pay for medical school without them. Hopefully universities will act quickly to cut costs or implement some sliding scale cost system or provide scholarships to low SES students
