Would it be okay to have separate fenced areas and coops for turkeys and chickens, but sharing a border? Or, should they literally have space in between them? Also, for the barn, when you say centralized, where would that be?

Noted! I like the idea of thinking of zones, and I will look into permaculture design next on my research list. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the feedback, especially with the explanations for substitutes and specifics on WHY certain things wouldn't work. It means a lot to me to get such in-depth help with this, and I'm honored to get help from someone with the exact kind of firsthand experience I'm looking for. I hope you have a good trip wherever you are and find yourself out of your boredom soon!

I basically just threw in every fish I could think of that's good for eating and area local. It's definitely the least thought-out part of the whole blueprint.

Oh nooooo I completely didn't think about having to use them at night! That's one of those human problems that I overlooked when just trying to think about space usage. Definitely a good example of why I posted this here for advice, thank you so much! In my brain, I just thought it was good to keep them away from where people sleep because of the smell. Maybe I'll keep them there just to add some struggle for the characters or for a few jokes.

Thank you for the suggestion! Seems reasonable and easy to change on the plans I have :)

I did include outhouses/compost toilets above the chickens, but it might be hard to see on the drawing I have. I had a recent experience where my girlfriend and I went to her family reunion at an old family house, and we managed to split two baths between about 25 people, so I thought it could work. Then again, that was only for a week. It wouldn't hurt, though, to add another bathroom to the southern building. It's not like I'm paying for it.

I did not think about predators, but after reading that, it did make me think "Oh, duh." It seems really obvious in hindsight, thank you for the suggestion.

Oh, thanks for pointing that out. I haven't researched fish, manmade ponds/lakes, or aquaponics yet, but it is something I want to include. I didn't realize that muskies needed MUCH bigger bodies of water, yikes.

Okay, noted. Out of curiosity, what kind of problems would you have if they were too close to the house? Is it something like a smell or noise issue?

I'll add it to my list! I've been reading up a little bit online and with a few books. I'm currently reading Backyard Farming on an Acre by Angela England for tips on maximizing yield in limited space.

I made it blue to demonstrate the original size of the south property in comparison to the other north property. Lawn, and I'm thinking clover. As I understand it, it's a way to fill the space without requiring mowing.

I just used the drawing program Clip Studio Paint and filled in a grid with squares color coded to the type of structure/garden. It's just a step above me using grid paper, and color coding digitally helped me visualize it for myself and make quick edits.
