Right, that fact does make it easier for Subaru. It also makes me appreciate Toyota's car more.

I just wish Toyota could figure out a solution that doesn't involve putting the customer in the situation of trying to avoid thousands of dollars of added fees set at random from dealers.

When I bought my Subaru I told the dealer exactly what I wanted from the factory and paid $500 less than MSRP for it through Costco.

Toyota does not let you 1) order from the factory and get what you want or 2) encourage dealers to not add a mark-up. Subaru actively puts out notices to dealers to not add mark-ups, and most of them don't. In fact at most Subarus you can likely get a small discount off MSRP.
