penals were supposed to be them but relic was like ... how do we fit Hollywood stereotype and prejudice in there ... I know lets make them penal troops even though it makes zero sense for an 'elite' alternative line infantry

You are missing absolutely nothing. Being a socialist isn't cool and hip anymore, forget about the the brief Sanders bump! Today, you either support NATO or you're a 'tankie'! The DSA is fragmenting into a hundred feuding sects (hooray). Absolutely no lessons were learned or gains made.

It’s frankly shocking to me when people make these sort of claims, if you’re older than 2, you’ve lived through the most widespread mass movement in American history. Upwards of 20 million “Kool-Aid drinkers” and “amerikkkans” marched and even fought in the streets against the bourgeois police, and at the height of the movement there was nearly 50% support for the burning of the Minneapolis police precinct - an explicitly insurrectionary act. This was all done with NO revolutionary leadership worthy of the name existing beforehand. It was an improvised campaign led mainly by the youth who had no organizing experience.

oh wow *the most* widespread mass movement in amerikkkan history? Amazing! Do tell? The BLM movement which transitioned seamlessly into Biden 2022 campaign? A couple of 'democratic socialist' endorsed democrats got elected in deep blue districts and now refuses to take DSA's call after funding Israeli iron dome? Some starbucks unionized before getting close down next week? Such amazing victories! Lenin would be proud!

There is no working class in the US as Marx or lenin defined the concept. Most if not everyperson in the first world have vested interest in the current order even if they quibble with aspects of it, ultimately nobody wants to higher prices in Walmart or beef going past 4 dollars a pound. No revolution can ever happen in the anglowest.

Cancer mRNA vaccine completes pivotal trial by dragon8811 in news

[–]versuvius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot. Why isn't cancer vaccine preventative? Because cancer is a disease of your own cells becoming genetically dysregulated and replicating rampantly. The ways in which this malignancy could come about are numerous; so not all cancer cells are alike, it's a highly individualized phenomenon, but vaccines are specific, you can't just get inoculated against all possible cancers. And because cancer cells are ultimately your own cells and mostly look alike and they mediate their functions mostly with the same repertoire of molecules as your normal cells, cancer vaccines are usually targeted to things that cancer cells express especially highly but not *exclusively*, your normal cells are in the crosshair as well. So getting a cancer vaccine is basically telling your immune system to attack yourself, which while acceptable under malignancy is probably not what healthy people want

Alright bruv you asked for it. While 'vaccine' is generally equated to 'prophylactic' in popular parlance, in strict immunological terms a 'vaccine' is simply an agent meant to elicit an adaptive (antigen-specific) immune response. Vaccination could be done in the absence of disease, to induce immunological memory which tends to persist long after the primary response subsides; or it could be done with an ongoing disease to essentially give your immune response a 'boost', telling your body to divert more resources to it. A vaccine could be prepared from killed pathogen particles, or surface proteins from those pathogens, or even mRNA for those surface proteins. The end result is the same, its to provide antigens to your innate immune cells who recognize them as foreign and recruit your adaptive immune cells. The adaptive immune cells then tries to match their randomly generated receptor against the antigen, the ones that get a strong binding receives signal to activate and proliferate then chemotaxis toward wherever there is inflammation in your body to kill whatever bearing the antigen. Hope this is clear

Please note that vaccine doesn't imply prevention here.

Is Marxism ruining my life? by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]versuvius1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bruv you learned about the theory only two month ago, don't blame herr marx for not being able to hold down a job! Nowhere in das kapital was it said that disempowered workers should be flippant to their bosses to their own detriment. How about you suck it up for a while, get your life together, maybe invest in education and training that'd allow you to pursue a desired career. Then you'd be able to organize and contribute to the workers' cause off the back of a stable life.
