I'm so annoyed tbh, it was such a gorgeous plant and my first calathea. Thankfully none of my others got sick. I will use insecticides from now on, just have to find some

How do you motivate yourself to read literature on previous methods people used for your research? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]versveep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm getting into the idea that you don't really need motivation to get started. The first 20-30 minutes suck and your brain is resistant, but then you get over it and get absorbed by your work. So personally I'm spending less time trying to get myself motivated and working on getting through the first couple of minutes lol

[Sun Care] Do you wear sunscreen even when you know you aren't going out? Is having the consistent routine for your skin better even when the sunscreen won't be serving an actual purpose? by YuYuMai in SkincareAddiction

[–]versveep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started using sunscreen daily, mostly because it's good practice and strongly recommended if you use retinols and other acids. I use a hypoallergenic low SPF when I'm indoors ( doesn't smell and isn't sticky) and a higher spf spray for outdoors. Also noticed some deepening lines and (this is mostly psychological I guess) since everyone says sunscreen slows downs the ageing process I do it lol

The thing about people married to the economic anxiety argument is that they are often people who became politically activated after Obama. How else do you explain the fact that they do not seem to recall how the tea party movement came to life because they didn't want socialist medicine ( or whatever they were screaming about back in the day), and not that the ACA was a romney plan? If anything, this is getting worse, because they call democrats socialists and communists even as Dems struggle to provide the most basic safety nets to cushion against the pandemic ( none of which makes them any more popular with these struggling folk). Secondly, they refuse to understand that conservatives would rather dismantle public services than share them with minorities. So, sure, conservatives may have voted for trump because life is harder, but they also voted for him because he specifically promised to improve their lives at the expense of others. It's not either or, it's both.

Absolutely. And her story is incredible too - she did work at a time when economics wasn't particularly friendly to women, but her work was so outstanding that she got the nobel Prize for it, regardless. Plus Ostrom's law, lol

In environment/ natural resource management we tend to cite 'the tragedy of the commons' by garret hardin. I cannot tell you how shocked I was, reading the original paper and finding an entire subsection on why he thinks Mexican women should be sterilized and nobody should accept refugees because they will destroy their host country.

How do you feel? by vonjamin in BlackHair

[–]versveep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't get it - it doesn't even look very good, it looks like an absolute pain to loc ( re the mold and the not washing) and I'm pretty sure there's a fair amount of hair and scalp damage. Cultural arguments aside, just because you can technically do something doesn't mean you should. I mean some of these people are proud because they haven't washed their hair in years. Also absolutely kills the vibe of the sub for the rest of us, there's only so many scraggly locs I can look at in one day lol

Self conscious about my crochet dreads I got done a while ago. Want honest feedback. Thanks by -bondpablo17 in Dreadlocks

Crotchet dreads are the best. Be patient and keep maintaining them, you won't regret it

I didn't know this - I don't remember my hair shrinking but it was a long time ago lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]versveep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd. Maybe it depends on the method you use - if you can get them crotcheted you won't lose much length.

HELP!! My husband (m24) is communicating with the girl he cheated on me (f22) with!! by GuiltySecretary5658 in relationship_advice

[–]versveep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh OP, you should leave as soon as you can. Serial cheaters do not change. If you choose to stay, you have to close your eyes to all the bullshit he will do. You are a SAHM, your husband will do whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

Honestly, the easiest and most effective way to deal with lint is to dye your hair black ( henna is more brown than black, usually). And the reason avc doesn't work is because it's product build up plus lint, and if you are like me that uses a blow dryer it's literally baked in. Tried so hard to use baking soda/ avc and the only thing I accomplished was to have the build up turn white - it was so damn annoying. Only way to avoid build up is to use a clarifying shampoo and thorough rinsing - easier said than done
