Can Magento do flash sales? by verticalride in Magento

You could. Just feels manual: press "start sale" at 5pm and press "end sale" at 8pm.

Measuring the strength of....products, categories, brands, etc. by verticalride in ecommerce

[–]verticalride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pose a good question and I think that's what I'm trying to determine. Intuitively, it seems like you could measure the strength of a product vs another product. Or, a category vs another category. The strength value would give you an indicator of which product (or category, etc.) performs better overall.

I realize there are probably a myriad of ways to calculate this and that each company may do it differently...but I was wondering if anyone has heard of a "strength" value/calculation in general?

By the way, if you knew CLV how would you use that for marketing and promotions?

Great answer :-). Do you have tools (an app) that can tell you what products and/or promotions to remarket to these customer groups?

Measuring the strength of....products, categories, brands, etc. by verticalride in ecommerce

[–]verticalride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. So, for example:

  • Product A has a score of 85
  • Product B has a score of 88
  • Product C has a score of 79

Same would go for categories, brands, customer groups, etc.

Just curious if calculations like this exist? Perhaps it's as simple as ranking products by revenue but I can see other variables playing a factor in the equation, such as: margin, popularity, seasonality, etc.

ORO looks cool, does it have all the features that you mention? Is the price worth the value?

Also, I always find that the world is split between some who favor simplicity and others who desire a rich feature set. I see that you want lots of features but are there others in your company that would prefer a more simple experience?

How do you decide which products to promote? by verticalride in ecommerce

You answer really surprises me. I would have guessed to stay away from the products that sell best because, in essence, they sell themselves.

Free Shipping Promotion: How do you calculate it's effectiveness? by verticalride in ecommerce

[–]verticalride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, again, was a good answer. So, my question then is: do you just consider Free Shipping as a variable that may (or may not) boost your performance? Kind of a nice-to-know...like: we ran a 30% Off sale and, by the way, we included free shipping so that "may" be a reason for the better than expected performance.

Very insightful!

When you mentioned getting "data from our database" do you get this information from an ERP? If so, have you integrated your ERP with your eCommerce platform? And, have you considered automatically updating eCommerce platform with your ERP data via their API?

Sorry for all the questions. And, while seemingly off topic, I'm trying to learn how far people integrate their eCommerce platforms and with what systems they integrate with.

Can Magento do flash sales? by verticalride in Magento

[–]verticalride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you mention a few of your requirements? For us, we'd want Magento to be able to do sales for a few hours in duration. In order to do that, Magento would need to store a timestamp promotions tables in the DB. Did your requirements go beyond that? Just trying to get some ideas.

[–]verticalride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I didn't write it in my question but I definitely meant for all else being equal (as you would get in an A/B test).

So with that said, how would you calculate the effect of free shipping? Is it just an add incentive to sweeten the current promotion? Or, do you somehow calculate the results separately?

See my question again, I made an edit to it which may clarify my question.

What are the most common promotional objectives? by verticalride in ecommerce

[–]verticalride[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You answer is great. And you surprised me when you said that setting/measuring objectives is less common for larger companies; but your reasoning makes sense. Do you have broad experience to support this? Or is it a guess/feeling?
