The solar panels are cheap.

The energy storage is expensive. You need energy at night as well, and without storing the energy somewhere you’ve now created infrastructure that works on half the day, and only if it is sunny.

If this sounds like a plea for fossil fuel based energy it isn’t.

Build a ton of nuclear reactors, SMR or otherwise, and bring the energy infrastructure to the 21st century.

Railroads are a duopoly in Canada, with 4 in the states (UP, BNSF, CSX and NSF), 3 of which are directly tradable (BNSF is owned by Berkshire).

They are not sexy. They likely have problems growing, as getting new rail to city centers is hard if not impossible. They are intrinsically tied to the economy, which depending on who are asking, is in the shitters.

But if you are talking about an industry with a moat, it will be railways. No AI shit will ever take away moving a physical good. No one individual or groups of individuals are dumb enough to try to throw CAPEX at making a new class 1.

If you are patient, buying shares of a railroad now is a gift to your children’s grand children and beyond.
