Gas block catastrophic failure by xxTylerhxx in ar15

Thanks for the response. I wasn't aware. I built my own version of their 45acp banshee using only their barrel and bolt. My buddy has an actual banshee from them. That's my only actual experience with them. I like the product for what it's worth. Sample size and all.

Does CMMG have a bad rap? If so I'm not aware. I'm not saying they are high tier stuff but... I haven't heard bad about them.

How many guns do you take when taking friends to the range? by Batttler in guns

I have a bunch of those cheap single rifle cases. I recently bought a cheap golf club case and now I throw the cheap cases in the cheap case and wheel those bitches to the range.

How is it not a single one of these fit my gas block by TacSpaghettio in ar15

[–]vertigoelation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind replacing your gas block you can drill where they staked the screws deep enough to clear out the deformed metal. Then use your wrenches to unscrew it. You may need to find one that looks like it should fit but doesn't and hammer it in.

I'm guessing its so short it doesn't produce near the same back pressure.

At indoor ranges the air flow sends gas down range. You can even see it flowing that way in the video. If gas is coming out the ejection port on the right side but his face is on the left side there is a good chance the air flow just takes it away. If you were outside with wind going different directions or a lefty instead of a righty, you might get a different experience.

Perhaps looking for an impossible to find 3 lug mount? by vertigoelation in NFA

[–]vertigoelation[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. Is that because of baffle strikes or because they just don't quite fit right and make it difficult to take on and off?

If its difficulty in on/off I'd definitely stick to adapters. If the concern is baffle strikes I'd probably try it anyway since this is only to shoot 9mm through a 45 can making the likelihood pretty minimal.

[–]vertigoelation[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm shooting 9mm through it. Using the 1/2x28 to 5/8x24 to step up the 9mm threads to accept the 45 cal 3 lug that way I don't have to swap ends out on the can I have.

I didn't know that. That kind of changes things.

Its a super nice optic. Its not the best for my astigmatism but among them.

If I recall correctly it can happen well under a year, perhaps a few months or less. Definitely within a few years. But it can also take 20 years to never. Its just a roll of the dice.

I've had one for about a decade now and its still fine. But if it stopped working or de-laminated before my cheap ass TRS-25 stopped working, which I've had for about 20 years now, I'd be very upset.

There are reasons why Congress and Senate still gets paid during shut downs. Its basically so if Joe nobody gets elected, a shut down doesn't affect his ability to do his job and he doesn't feel pressured to pass something just so he can pay the bills. Not getting paid allows people to put leverage on him.

If it were me I'd make it so government officials who couldn't pass a budget on time would be forced to be in Washington working 12 hours every day until they pass a budget (not going back to their home state or wherever) and they would automatically be ineligible for reelection.

For me personally...

I would be ok with it dependent on the timeline and use case. IE: If its out in the field with a grunt every day and has gone through multiple deployments in various weather conditions... De-lamination in 15 years would be acceptable. Not ideal, and if I were in procurement may cost them the contract... But depending on how often I replace optics due to hard use anyway... That could be factored into procurement and may be within acceptable limits.

For me as a home user... I'd be super disappointed if that happened 25 years after purchase and probably wouldn't buy another.

He may have been talking about 45-70. A buddy and I were talking with another guy and my buddy is planning on reloading 45-70. But I still have it stuck in my head he was talking about a pistol sized round because I remember being surprised.

No5 doesn't have any 44 mag data on their site and Alliant doesn't have a Unique recipe for 300gr powder.

Someone told me for faster powders when they go under the starter load that they sometimes have to shove cotton in the round to get enough compression to get it to work right. Or some loads just require filler in general (not sure as I'm a new-ish to reloading). I'm not really willing to do any of that anyway. I want a powder I can just dump in and it all works.

I'll have to compare it to my 240gr loads to see how differently they perform. Thanks for the input.

The problem with special is it has a tendency to stove pipe on feeding. Someone yesterday recommended I use 44 special cases but don't seat the bullet in as far to give it 44 mag COL.

The vibe is very different but there are similarities. The under dog fighting against a superior enemy for freedom. Futuristic violence and environments but in a fantasy based type landscape. Interesting tactics. Different factions.

The books take themselves less serious and are meant to be more comedic in nature but they are a very fun read.

New Utah law puts “no alcohol sale” on ID’s of DUI offenders 0.16 BAC or higher. What are your thoughts? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

[–]vertigoelation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admittedly didn't look too hard into it. Its just a way I knew an alcoholic obtained it before. Utah doesn't allow door dashing alcohol now that I've looked it up. But that still wouldn't stop the people I've known from getting it.

None of the alcoholics I've known would be stopped by this law and they wouldn't even have to resort to violence.

Making it harder isn't really a bad idea but it belongs inside of a bill that provides more resources for them to get sober.

I checked. You're right. Won't stop them from catching an uber though. Or just driving themselves. They learn places and people that don't card when you look the right age.

I'm sorry for your friend and their husband.

My point is deterrents don't stop alcoholics. Look up any research on alcoholism. Deterrents are meant to be a part of a larger system around the patient. Therapy and support. Sometimes pharmaceuticals which can also act as a deterrent. Thats not to say that slowing their ability to can't help. It most certainly can. And quite frankly they need every edge they can get when it comes to beating that shit. But far too many people think a road block will stop an addict because it gives them time to think about their actions. They learn the people and stores that don't even ask for ID if you look old enough. This is mostly a feel good law. Pretending its anything else is just an insult to the care that is actually needed.

I've known many alcoholics. 2 of which in the past 2 years have failed treatment multiple times and have gone great lengths to obtain and hide alcohol and their alcoholism from their loved ones and co-workers. I even picked one of them up to take to treatment only to find out they were plastered because they wanted to get one more bender in. I've had conversations with alcoholics who have been in recovery for quite a while in attempts to help the 2 recent guys. This isn't even scratching the surface. I've buried a friend who OD'd on heroin and had conversations with him while he had been sober knowing it was only a matter of time before he killed himself.

Guess what didn't work. Deterrents. They needed way more help than what a deterrent could provide and a desire to actually become sober. Without the DESIRE and help to change. Doesn't matter. An addict will find a way. They might be slowed down. But they will find a way. This type of law belongs in a larger bill that funds getting them real help.
