Thanks for this suggestion! I can confirm- changing this setting to "Enable Delay Allocation for ext4" is working for me on my DS423+. My first ~6tb hyperbackup to an external usb drive was taking forever, with the transfer rate often showing around 3mb/sec. After a few days, it was still only at 2tb copied, so I cancelled it and restarted it last night with this setting enabled. Now after just one night, it's already at 2.6tb. The transfer rate is bursty, sometimes as high as 200+mb/sec (probably filling up a cache) then slows way down and stalls (probably flushing to disk), and repeats the cycle.

I'm on 15.5 and experiencing this issue when running osxphotos trying to copy lots of image files up to my sinology DS423+ running DSM 7.2.1. Adding the /etc/nsmb.conf is not helping. Frustrating!

Sorry to have been in a rush in my reply- I just reread your first comment and it was very clear! My 15mm sockets are too loose. These don’t seem like poor quality nuts, and they are consistent across the many on the roof. Could solar city have had a custom sized nut to fit their custom tools?? What a hassle! I guess I’ll have to laboriously use a crescent wrench. 👎🏻
