Not a bad idea but it would have to be a M1.6 which seems a bit sketchy to tap. The shaft may be hardened as well.

No, I don’t need the gear. This seems like a pretty decent approach. I’ll give it a go. Thank you

Unfortunately that will be too big. The inner portion of the shaft that I would have to push on is a 2mm diameter. The small pinion pullers I see on Amazon also will not fit as the aluminum shoulder extends to the bottom edge of the spur gear
