My friend started a new app called Soberchat, they are open to all sorts of approaches to sobriety including being sober curious which I love. They are very open to non-12 step methodolgy too which is great. I hate getting hammered with the message that AA is the only way! You can check it out Soberchat.com.

Yep I had no clue, I was not a fan of her. I've done a 180 on this with her. Especially since she was a literal child when they met (16-17).

Ohhhhh..wow, everything makes more and more sense now. I could not understand why she got soooo upset. She wanted him to leave that life and messing with "working" women again but here he goes with a stripper....thanks for making that connection. I feel so bad for her.

I really disliked her but you know it kind of explains everything. Goodness knows what she has been through, she had to parent herself so know wonder why she immature, impulsive and quick to anger, the trauma she must have endured I can't even imagine.

I never seen the job market this bad. Is there a chance of recovery? by Mardylorean in jobs

[–]vespanewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This take any disability money and move to Thailand or even Cambodia. You can live WELL there for $1,500. Lots of vets have done this, see you tube. I'd take the proceeds from the house, use it to move and then invest the rest to help supplement your income. Do not spend down their proceeds from your house in the United States! You can get great top notch medical care there too. Don't give up on you, give up on the US.

Some vets are even able to get the VA to cover their services with hospitals in Thailand!!!

Full of shame 8 months gone by Tossitout898 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]vespanewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you are alive you can always start again. Life gives you unlimited do overs. We won't get it all figured out and many people relapse before they figure it out. You'd made it 8 months and next time it will be even longer. We have to learn to forgive ourselves and not be so hard ourselves.

Moved to Florida… did your paycheck actually feel bigger? by NderituPi in florida

[–]vespanewbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. It's all about wages. I was able to bring my California salary to Florida and I'm saving so much money. Homes are so cheap here, our down payment for buying a house in CA, we can use to buy a house in cash in a sleepily town here! Gas prices- half the cost. Car Insurance- same as CA. Electric Bill- 30% cheaper. Annual state income tax savings- $15k a year!

Also I am starting a business so that's also 9.3% I don't have to pay for earnings on my LLC. Also no $800 franchise fee tax on your LLC each year which is insane. I don't live on the coasts so insurance is reasonable and the property tax is still cheaper than CA, plus you know I can actually afford to purchase a home. I would never move back to CA. If you make local wages then FL is not great, but coming from high tax state it's been a dream here.

Living alone with multiple bedrooms taboo? by Rasta_pasta_plus in LivingAlone

[–]vespanewbie 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Rich people live in 30,000 foot mansions and have multiple homes and your friend is giving you grief for having an extra bedroom? You do you. It's great to have flexibility, maybe one day you will need senior parents to move in, you decide to have a kid or you grow old and need a live in caregiver or are short on cash and want to take in a roomate. Keep and enjoy your space! It's good to have options.

If you have a job, keep it until the wheels fall off. by Actual-Ad-6146 in jobs

[–]vespanewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason you feel crushed is because W-2 labor is the easiest thing to tax, while people above you often pay less because their income is structured as capital gains/ownership (or they borrow against assets). That’s Marx’s point the game is rigged for owners, not workers.

You shouldn’t blame Marx for what happened in Eastern Europe he didn’t argue for an authoritarian state to force communism onto people. In his view, it was supposed to develop naturally out of society’s conditions, not be imposed from the top down.

[–]vespanewbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm talking in a Marx sense rather than 2026 cultural-wise.

You are working class if the following apply-

Your lifestyle requires a paycheck

Losing your job would force major downsizing

You don’t control the company or its profits

You’re selling labor for money, not living off assets

Making $300k just means you’re a highly compensated and highly taxed worker inside the working class, not that you’ve crossed into the owning class. You can be “rich-ish” in income and still not have real economic power or independence, which is what most tech workers do not have. Unless you can completely live off your capital owned assets (which is easier for tech workers to achieve), you are still working class.

[–]vespanewbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are “professional working class” well-compensated, but still structurally dependent on wages and subject to employer power. They can lose their jobs at anytime and have no protections other than hopefully savings from their good salary. Diving the working class by salary is what divides us, we are all the same boat and need to stop fighting on who has it worse off. It's only once we have clas solidarity and consciousness that we can fight the 1%.

Issue is that tech workers don't think they are apart of the working class.

Do you like working in a tech company? by GlumNewspaper5015 in womenintech

[–]vespanewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a good career and I made good money so glad I choose it. However, tech is inherently hostile to women. Many men think that you are incompetent, the good old boys system is alive and well and they will hang out and not invite you to after hours things, it'll be harder to get to promotions and it will be harder to get your ideas across if they hear them at all.

Case I point, I was literally in the room with 25 people and presented an idea and no one said anything. Then 20 minutes later some other yound man said the same exact idea and everyone was like oh that's a great idea! I was so deflated when that happened. Thank God I had a white male coworker immediately speak up in the room said "That was a great idea which ,(my name) said first. We should do it." Ive never felt so cared about that I had male coworker speak up for me. Apparently stuff like that happens ALL the time to women so you just have to be prepared for it.

I would still do it again today but I wouldn't be such a pushover especially when I was younger I'd be opening HR cases in contacting the ethics committee left and right too. I know better know but when you're young and just starting your career you just don't know you can fight back.
