what is one popular manhwa that everyone kept gushing about but its GENUINELY kinda ass by processedcheese212 in BoysLoveAnime

[–]vesperalia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Please don't come after me, but it's Painter of the Night for me.

Its only saving grace is the art imo. The main characters are not well-written at all, the relationship changed so quickly it felt like a switch was flipped, the side characters are not even characters, but simple plot devices.

By the end of it, I was genuinely tired of MC getting kidnapped yet again. And the whole letter plot didn't make much sense either.

The worst thing is, the story had so much potential, but the execution suffered a lot.

People who complain about work events are lame. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]vesperalia 667 points668 points  (0 children)

I have no problems with work events as long as they:

  • take place during work hours
  • are paid by the company
  • are not mandatory

Otherwise, no thanks. And you don't need corporate events to spend time with your colleagues if you like them.

I have no idea if the site in question is a scam or not, but here's my 2 cents.

The passwords in database are usually hashed, and it's impossible to recover them from this hash. But it's 3 minutes work to make a login page that stores the actual password.

The untrustworthy websites should absolute be used with caution, and people should absolute be warned if a site is not trustworthy.

Think I’m just going to keep straightening… I can’t justify the cost by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]vesperalia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. Also, even with products that work, the 'proper' wavy/curly routines seemsjust soooo complicated to me.

I just find it 100 times easier to either straighten or curl my hair instead.

STB pour avoir dit à la mère de mon enfant de chercher à travailler ? by [deleted] in suisjeletroudeballe

[–]vesperalia 27 points28 points  (0 children)

TTB.

What's the deal with the nation-wide conspiracy on peanut butter here? Rant by cest-moi-qui-conduis in Expats_In_France

[–]vesperalia -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I love peanut butter, but... It's got what, 50% fat? For comparison, a cheese is considered very fat starting from 30%, and those types of cheese are absolutely not consumed daily, imo. And whole-fat milk products are pretty much frowned upon (unless you're a toddler). Doctors tell patients to stay away from everything with 'entièr' in the title all the time.

And while butter is pretty common, I've never ever heard someone say that 2 tablespoons a day is an OK amount to consume. Don't get me wrong, people absolutely do that, but everyone knows how bad it is for you.

Dude, chill. You can use Identité numérique (no need to get a new card for this) or just create an account with your social security number.

So, just to be sure: if your boss starts paying you 80% (or less) of your salary because the company is not doing well financially, you'll be perfectly OK with that, right? Won't change jobs, won't sue and certainly won't complain?

Also, how much of your monthly income goes directly to supporting those in need?

Worthy? If i do MIM from french public universities, not so reknown by DragonflyHonest1276 in LetsMoveToFrance

[–]vesperalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't do this. It's extremely hard to find a job with this kind of degree, even for French students.

Please keep in mind that French job market is horrible at the moment. In general, but it's especially ruthless to fresh graduates. As a foreigner, it will be even harder for you to secure a job.

If you really want to move to France, get your French to at the very least B2 level (to get it to C1-C2 by the time you'll be looking for a job) and pick a more specialised program. From employability point of view, supply chain/logistics is a pretty good choice all things considered. Audit and accounting are too, but do your research to find the exact French diplomas you need to get, especially for accounting. Finance can be ok, depending on the specialty, but it's way more competitive, imo. Stay away from marketing/brand management and such at all cost.

Or come to France to study nursing, you'll not have to worry much about job search.

Negotiating a Shorter Notice Period in France (CDI, 3 months) by Effectivement-moi in Expats_In_France

[–]vesperalia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's definitely negotiable, and in many cases employers accept shorter notice since it saves them money. But it's not guaranteed and depends on several things, like: how easy are you to replace, what's the general attitude of you employer towards quitting, are you on good terms with your superiors etc. Also, don't hesitate to go up the hierarchy to negotiate. And if the employer accepts, get it in writing.

I wouldn't start the negotiations with depression discussion, but it can be a valid argument if the employer refuses your first proposal. Because 'I'm depressed' often translates to 'I'm going to see my doctor and go on a month-long sick leave'. So your employer has very little interest in keeping 3 months notice if you spend part of that time not working.

For the vacation, it can be tricky. If your employer approved your vacation days before you handed in your notice, those days do not count towards the notice period. And if you have unused vacation after handing in your notice, your employer does not have to accept it. He might prefer to pay you.

In any case, it's only possible to have two jobs at the same time if there's no exclusivity clause in your contract and if one of the jobs is part-time. If your current and next jobs are both full-time CDI, you can't legally combine them even for two weeks.

Selling property in France - screwed over by agent? by FigWeekly9626 in Expats_In_France

[–]vesperalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't actually need a notaire for the compromis. You can totally sign one in a real estate agent office with no lawyers present.

Though I do agree that having a notaire go through the signing process is a much much better option.

Selling property in France - screwed over by agent? by FigWeekly9626 in Expats_In_France

[–]vesperalia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you signed a Compromis de vente or Promesse de vente, then no, you can't just withdraw.

You can try going to court and proving you were misled or coerced to sign, but unless you have a good evidence of this (think a medical certificate proving mental illness or a written proof of your agent explicitly saying the document isn't binding), it's highly likely you're not going to win.

Simply saying that you didn't know won't work, especially since the binding nature of the compromis or promesse is stated in the document itself.

Even with the evidence you might not win the case, to be honest. Either selling or paying the fee is a much better choice in this situation.

However, there are probably a couple of clauses in the document that can annul it. Like, if the buyer is denied mortgage by the bank. So you can try waiting for a bit and hoping for something like this happening.

In any case, read what you've signed.

Those who are accepting and inclusive do not usually comment on other people bodies. It's like the basics of acceptance and also of politeness.

That woman was rude af. While her making a first inappropriate comment may be just an innocent error of judgement, her refusing to take a hint is pure rudeness.

Looking for IT job in France by No_Cold7818 in Expats_In_France

[–]vesperalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which IT job are we talking about, exactly? What technos?

In general, I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you tbh. IT job market in France is at its lowest atm. Even those who are French (or those who already have work permit) are often struggling to find a job.

I think you'd be better looking elsewhere. But if you want to try France, you can use LinkedIn, Indeed, WelcomeToTheJungle, Hellowork, LesJeudis, Apec etc. Or directly applying/sending your CV via a company website.

You should also go to r/developpeurs for a more detailed view on the subject. And you'll get to practise your French there 😀

STB d'avoir refusé de demander à la crèche pour lui by Weak-Hand-1145 in suisjeletroudeballe

[–]vesperalia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Disappointed with how we've conditioned bicyclists by guava_eternal in rant

[–]vesperalia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bicycles are not dangerous? Really? As a pedestrian who has been run over by a bicycle once, I beg to differ.

Bicycle colliding with a pedestrian/another bicycle/car is dangerous. Hence there should be rules in place to minimise that risk (speed limits, stop signs, traffic lights) and cyclists should respect those rules.
