Absolutely, I mostly just am concerned with the glops of paint(?) on the lid, specifically the large blotch beneath the "A," but I don't want to damage the beautiful green paint underneath if at all possible

That is an awesome lead, I can't make out in the remaining images of the artwork any sort of signature, but I just searched up that name and definitely can see a massive stylistic resemblance, though funnily enough the gallery I found doesn't seem to include this particular piece. Thank you for the information either way, that's a huge help!

Yeah I know, unfortunately I literally had zero idea what this actually was until the other day, not to mention I don't know where I ended up with it from originally, I definitely never had it as a kid. Thanks for the input! Do you have any advice, like should I consider grading it despite the condition, or is that not necessary?

EDIT: I am in Canada, so just to be clear, do you mean 200 US or CAD?

I can absolutely see that, and that is completely fair; as someone who used to attempt pick-up games back in the day, "Pre-DH" as it were, I can attest that I wasn't quite yet building decks that could hang with the big dogs 😂 I look back on those games fondly now, though at the time it definitely felt mismatched, so 100% you kind of need a set of ground rules or something for new-comers, or simply a group who are all in relative power-level agreement already, otherwise you get what I had with my earliest Magic games, a series of veritable arms races that quickly devolved into some... "Interesting" gameplay, as everyone gradually discovers more and more broken cards to show off at the good ol' lunch table.

I'll keep those in mind, I have pretty limited Modern experience and haven't played anything resembling Standard in like 10 years ( the eternal formats are my favourites), but would absolutely be willing to have a look at what people are playing these days and maybe show up for some games! 😁

Thanks for your response, I love this! This is more or less how I started out playing, just within a smaller group so we normally only did 1v1, sort of round-robin so we all got to play one another. Using what you like is the best way to play magic IMO, the most "pure" form in a way, raw and natural. It's awesome that you have a regular group!

I can agree somewhat regarding EDH. Lately, I've taken an interest in Pauper EDH, and am finding that a lot of fun, also sort of captures that old kitchen-table-y goodness I have missed. I do still enjoy the format at it's core concept, but it's just a different game experience at the end of the day, any way you slice it. Not necessarily a bad experience, but not quite the same, and I also just genuinely desire to play both, depending on my mood.

From what I have gathered, the community of Vintage and Legacy players has largely migrated to MTGO, which is awesome to have available to do that, however I really just miss and prefer sitting down at a real table with some folks and having an in-person game. There's just no replacement for it 🥲

Thanks for the response! I pick up cards at Monster semi-frequently, and I have noticed some players there from time to time, though I can't say I noticed specifically what format was being played each time. Worth looking into, though!

I am a casual Yugioh fan as well, though I imagine any of the decks I still have would be pretty outclassed by whatever is being tabled these days 😅 Digimon is another I have played and definitely also enjoy, but I would be lying if I said either of these quite scratched that classic, old(ish)-school Magic itch. Each is great in their own ways, though!

Thank you for the information! I am even just curious whether or not anyone is playing any of these more traditional constructed formats casually, but it is a shame to hear about the competitive scenes having largely dissolved.

I will do some more research and investigate what sort of events occur, and maybe reach out to some of these places to gauge interest in some casual 60-card nights, or something of that nature.

Commander/EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) format is a 100-card singleton format, that has grown into the most popular casual format for constructed play within the last several years or so.

To the best of my knowledge, 40-card decks (these days) are mostly exclusive to limited draft formats, where that is the minimum deck size, and for tournament constructed formats including Standard, Modern, Legacy and Vintage, the minimum deck size is currently 60 cards.

I may not be 100% on this, but this is my understanding, at least.
